Last Chance to Stop the Government Takeover of Health Care: The Senate

Our Last Chance to Stop the Democrats’ Health Care Takeover:  The Senate

This summer’s clarion call from Americans across the country opposed to the aggressive expansion of government in Washington, D.C., was obviously not heard inside the Beltway.  Just as unemployment reaches double digits, Democrats push for more government takeovers.  Instead of policies aimed at job creation, this past weekend Nancy Pelosi and Beltway Democrats—aloof, detached, completely averse to reality—passed legislation authorizing a government takeover of 1/6 the U.S. economy, our health care system.

With the votes to pass any bill of their choosing, Speaker Pelosi forced through a health care “reform” bill that kills jobs, strangles small business, saddles states with unfunded mandates and adds to the deficit.  My research team recently highlighted each of these concerns, as outlined by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).  See for yourself:  Research Brief.

The Republicans offered their own alternative, one that focuses on actual reform, brings down costs, supports small business, doesn’t strap the states with costly mandates and, according to CBO, doesn’t add to the federal deficit:  Research Brief.

One of the final steps in this process is Senate passage where like the House, moderate Democrats are apprehensive supporting yet another government takeover.  Unless your voice is heard moderate Democrats in the Senate will be forced to toe the party-line, as Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi steamroll to final passage.

Now is not the time to let Nancy Pelosi and her left wing media allies propagate their plan as anything but the wrong direction for America.  We have the tools to spread our message, influence the debate in Washington and start to push back.

CALL TO ACTION:  Take the time to contact your Member of Congress today by calling the Senate switchboard at (202)-224-3121, and oppose any bill that increases taxes, raises premiums, kills jobs and puts bureaucrats between patients and doctors.

IMPORTANT CALL TO ACTION:  Start spreading the message to your community, your workplace, or your online social network:  Republicans are providing real solutions...You can help us do that by creating an account on http://our.gop.com/ and let your voice be heard loud and clear.

Supposedly this reform must be done. There are issues on both sides. But if you believe Mr Obama that those who like their coverage can keep it, and that most Americans like their coverage, then the problem facing our nation is much simpler. Buy insurance for 31 million uninsured. Consider 2.5 Trillion spent and the system can be left alone to buy coverage for the next decade.

Where is the leadership on this issue? I see none. I hear no one standing up and telling the American people the truth about what is happening to our country. I hear no pledges to reverse this trend. All I hear is empty, overly focus group researched slogans that don't mean squat! Is there anyone left in this party who cares more for Country that they do for their personal power? Where is the leadership?

as much as I hate it being passed..it will help the platform for 2010.."Americans, we need to take over by a 2/3 majority in the senate and house to reverse all of these destructive bills and policies of the radicals that are destroying our Great Nation, so their leader Obama will not be able to veto the reversals." "We need your vote desperately..Republicans, Independents, and Democrats who love our Great Nation." "We cannot stop everything that Obama is doing, but we can slow him down until 2012 election...help us America to save our nation before it is too late."

Mr. Steele, First I do not believe after reading HR 3962 this is quite the massive government take over of healthcare you advertise it to be. With an issue this important I believe it is a time to scale back political rhetoric. As I have watched this unfold I have seen Republicans make some very scary choices, essentailly barring their participation from the creation of this bill. This gave far more weight to the far left. BLUNTLY: you guys shot yourself in the foot. There are many things wrong with this bill, many fundamental issues, that as republicans you should have calmly debated with centerist democrats. This would have lead to a better, more comprehensive, lower cost bill. Instead, you screamed government takeover, socialism and bunch of other hyberbole in the hopes of ousting democratic congressman in the midterm elections. Independents and moderates will figure this out. It is why Gingrich got blamed for the government shutdown. People like Obama. People don't like congress. Do the math.

We need to stop this. It is a forced coersion on the American people. It seems that congress doesn't care about what we, the people, the ones that hired them, think. The senate needs to fight for the people. We need to light up their switchboards. The Congress and President Obama are just screwing states' rights in lew of socialism. The liberty and freedoms we cherish will vanish with this bill. As a man who is pro-life, I am appalled that the legislation will allow funded abortions. We need to lend our voices and stop socialized medicine in its tracks!

Thank you Chairman Steele for visiting New Mexico yesterday. Your speech was inspiring, your message clear. It's time to step up Republicans! Don't just complain! Do something about the free-fall deficit spending by our congressional delegates. Those of you not in office, volunteer on someone's campaign. Less government, lower taxes and more freedom. God Bless America.

First, I applaud whole-heartedly and with deep appreciation Michael Steele's stand on abortion, and making it consistent through dropping RNC coverage. Way to go Michael! This could be the issue to slow down nationalized health care. Abortion is not health care. It is an elective procedure for purposes of birth control, a lifestyle choice, not a medically necessary procedure to promote health. "Reproductive health" is am egregious lie, foisted on us for political purposes. Dems push to have abortion defined as "health care" should kill their momentum. It would thrust govt into what even they have claimed is a private, personal choice -- taking sides by subsidizing a particular choice. Public funds for abortion will increase its incidence -- as it has in states which provide tax support. If we subsidize abortion, why not tummy tucks, facelifts, etc., etc. All of this adds cost to a program supposedly promising to "bend the cost curve." This raises a further essential problem with Dems "Health Care." It solves no essential problems -- such as cost or availability of care -- and is certain only to create an enormous new entitlement, and many new bureaucracies, at astronomical cost. GOP needs to offer alternatives that actually solve problems, build a corps of medical professionals and contains cost. Thomas B. Collins Michigan

Is it true that the Republican Health Care bill includes abortion?

Mr. Steele: Please quit calling yourself a "moderate" conservative. You either are or aren't a conservative. We don't need anyone in the party to "ride the fence", so to speak. Your job is to excite and get our Congressman and Senators upbeat, with a ready to fit conviction, come across as angry and to quit being the "warm

At this point, the MO of the Republican party should be to kill this Pelosi/Reid/Rahm Emanuel octopus of a bill. There has to be a way to hold the Dems off till 2010 elections, and then get some real congressman focused on the much more important issues at hand like the economy/high unemployment, a decision on the wars, the corruption in Washington, the borders, and just getting back to Constitutional laws and principles that the country should be governed by. Health care is not the main concern of the US citizens right now.
