What we are watching:
House vote. House Democrats take up paygo legislation and increasing the debt limit. Watch for sanctimonious speeches on fiscal responsibility as they simultaneously vote to give themselves the authority to spend us deeper into record debt.
Who is Craig Becker? Timely question, as a Senate panel is set to consider his nomination today. See this RNC Research piece for what questions Senate Democrats should be asking this nominee today.
In the news:
Democrats smile for the cameras. Curiously missing from the president’s Q&A session with Democrats yesterday was any mention of their marquee legislative priority, health care reform. The Hill quotes meeting attendees who say the tough talk came after the “carefully scripted ..session,” with Democrats complaining about a lack of leadership from the White House on how to move forward.

Congressman Kirk wins Illinois’ primary. RNC Chairman Michael Steele released a statement saying, “Congressman Mark Kirk is poised to help lead the strongest Republican ticket that Illinois has seen in a generation.”
Democrats skeptical of Obama’s budget proposal. Democrats tell White House Budget Director Peter Orszag that the president’s budget proposal does not do enough to bring down the deficit, cut the debt.
Cap and trade hits the skids? President Obama says cap and trade could be separated out from “green jobs” bill signaling a hesitancy by the administration to tie the unpopular job killing initiative to any other jobs bills during an election year.
