On the Campaign Trail: It Starts Now in VA

Posted by: Chairman Michael Steele

Yesterday we campaigned for our Republican candidates in the Commonwealth of Virginia starting at the Silver Diner in Glen Allen. This was the first of five stops for the day – we went on to spend most of the day with statewide candidates Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli at rallies in Danville, Martinsville, Rocky Mount and Blacksburg. Check out some of the pictures below:

A strong team that is ready to lead Virginia.

The best part of campaigning on the road is meeting our dedicated supporters.

The crowds at each event were truly impressive, in numbers and spirit.

I have a great feeling about our team in Virginia, we have great candidates, we’re organized and most of all: we're motivated.

On “the stump” with Bob.

Motivating supporters…New Jobs. More Opportunities. It Starts Now!

Let’s Go Virginia Republicans!

A long day on the campaign trail that ended with one of Virginia’s strongest communities: The Hokies in Blacksburg.

What We Stand For:  Economic Empowerment For All

We need to reach out to more minorities like the Hispanics without compromising our beliefs and values. We need to make them feel welcomed and that they belong. The Democrats have a way of making it appear that the Republicans are the party of the elites and they are for the working people when in fact it is quite the opposite…We need to counter that impression! I am at lost [sic] as to how to go about it. As an individual and a Hispanic minority, I make it a point to voice this truth every chance I get. How can we get this message across nation wide?

Helen, thank you for your post.  The Republican Party has led the efforts to get all Americans a seat at the lunch counter—from abolition to the civil rights movement to welfare reform and beyond.  But we also recognize what it will take for this and future generations to own the diner.  It’s not by empowering government but by empowering the individual.  The virtue of economic empowerment applies to all Americans.  ... more

Chairman’s Response: We Value Your Voice

My dad talked to me about free markets and small government. But it wasn't until I temporarily took in a homeless girl and found out how complex the social problems are that I gave up on government solutions to poverty… Thank you for listening to us. I resigned from RNC membership a number of years ago because I wasn't valued as a member … let me have a voice in the direction of the party, and a way to share ideas.

Laurie, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to communicate why you are a Republican.  Your story is so important because it speaks to the very core of our movement and our Party.  The left is able to present government expansion as the only solution to social ills when in reality it all-too-often exacerbates the problem.  Your compassionate nature, through volunteer and other charitable efforts, is what makes up the social fabric of this nation and another reason so many fellow Americans have joined our ranks.

Let me ask you

Posted by: Chairman Michael Steele

The Internet has been around a while now. But I still find it an amazing platform for innovation not just in technology, but also in life. Beyond admiring the way it powers so many inventions and businesses, it has become a personal thing for me. I love the fact that, wherever I might be, I can use technology to see my family and chat with them, and utilize social media to tap into what my friends are doing.

Today, I want to begin to better connect with Republicans everywhere.

My first blog entry, therefore, is really a couple of questions for you. Use the comment button to send me replies and we will run as many questions as we can. I’ll be responding personally to each one.

Why are you a Republican? Think about that for a minute.

When I was old enough to vote, my Mother advised me to pick the Party that was committed to protecting my God given Liberties. I did my research and made my choice with my Mother’s advice in mind---how did you make yours?

How can we better serve ... more
