Over the past several weeks, the national budget deficit, the national debt, and the national unemployment rate have all risen to historic levels. President Obama and Congressional Democrats have compounded these problems by proposing a host of policies that would put America on an increasingly destructive economic path.
Washington’s spending habits have only gotten worse since Democrats called for “change,” which they defined as “a new type of politics,” “a new era of transparency” and “an end to special interest legislation.”
But since they arrived, they have only changed matters for the worse. Significant portions of Congress’s work have been deliberately shielded from public view, and on many occasions, the Democrat majority has resorted to parliamentary tricks to force their agenda through the system. The rate at which the deficit is increasing is the most disturbing statistic -- it has more than tripled from last year’s record high.

Our Last Chance to Stop the Democrats’ Health Care Takeover: The Senate
This summer’s clarion call from Americans across the country opposed to the aggressive expansion of government in Washington, D.C., was obviously not heard inside the Beltway. Just as unemployment reaches double digits, Democrats push for more government takeovers. Instead of policies aimed at job creation, this past weekend Nancy Pelosi and Beltway Democrats—aloof, detached, completely averse to reality—passed legislation authorizing a government takeover of 1/6 the U.S. economy, our health care system.
With the votes to pass any bill of their choosing, Speaker Pelosi forced through a health care “reform” bill that kills jobs, strangles small business, saddles states with unfunded mandates and adds to the deficit. My research team recently highlighted each of these concerns, as outlined by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). See for yourself: Research Brief.

Yesterday, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence and I kicked off an amazing 12-hour marathon online town hall featuring Republican members of Congress and health care experts across the nation talking about health care reform. From 1 PM to 1 AM, we exposed 12 truths about the Obama-Pelosi government-run health care experiment, and we answered your questions via email, Facebook and Twitter, comparing the 1,990-page monstrosity that is the House Democrats’ bill with the 219 page GOP bill, which was unveiled just this week.
That’s right! We have long had proposals to make our health care more affordable and portable, and House GOP Leader John Boehner introduced the official Republican substitute to Nancy Pelosi’s government takeover of health care. What should you know about the Republican plan for common sense health care reform?

Tuesday’s results made it official: The GOP grassroots base is back, motivated and not to be messed with…
In my first blog post since yesterday’s victories in both Virginia and New Jersey, I want to thank you—the voters, the supporters, the grassroots…everyone who stood up for our Country and said no, this is not the direction for America. You took the first step in getting our Country back on track.
On the ground campaigning, I could see it your faces and hear it in your voices…the frustration, the conviction, the certainty. America heard you and your conservative voices resonated.
Because of your efforts, the Republican Party is once again a bottom-up party. The Republican Party has once again found its voice. The great candidates that won last night shared your vision and heard your message. You energized behind these core Republican conservative principles and candidates and rejected the failed Democrat policies.
Because of your efforts, we are now positioned to ... more

Today’s elections will determine which direction this country is headed.
All across our country, most Americans oppose government intrusion in their lives, value the importance of faith and family, and honor our military. They are tired of being taxed too much for a government that delivers too little. This sentiment is overwhelmingly apparent as I depart NJ and head for VA.
Republicans understand these concerns. Judging from their choices in policies and leaders, Democrats don’t. Voters are reminded of this as Democrats seek to expand government, raise taxes, hurt small businesses, and deny school choice (and thus opportunity) to impoverished families victimized by failing schools.
The health care debate highlights the fundamental philosophical differences between Republicans and Democrats. It is the optimal backdrop to show the American people that competitive markets rather than government bureaucrats will improve and expand health care for more Americans. ... more
