“On Saturday night, a number of moderate Senate Democrats sacrificed their principles to bring America dangerously closer to government-run health care. Ben Nelson sold out his conscience and voted in favor of federally funded abortions. Blanche Lincoln sold out her principles by voting in favor of a government-run insurance plan, something she previously said she opposed. And Mary Landrieu simply sold her vote to the highest bidder after Harry Reid added a $300 million earmark just for Louisiana. Voters elected these Senators to represent their best interests. Instead they voted in the dead of night for a health care experiment that will increase taxes, raise premiums, cut Medicare, and use taxpayer dollars to fund abortion. This is not the representation Americans deserve. It’s time for these Senators to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves who they really work for – their constituents or liberal Democrats like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.” – RNC ... more

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement today:
“Tonight a number of moderate Democrats sacrificed their principles to give Harry Reid a victory that brings America dangerously closer to having a government-run health care system. Make no mistake: this was not a free vote. A vote in favor of this procedural motion paves the way for the bill’s final adoption, which would impose a government-run health care experiment on America that increases premiums, increases taxes, cuts Medicare and allows for taxpayer-funded abortions. As the recent elections in Virginia and New Jersey showed, Harry Reid’s health care scheme is exactly what voters do not want. President Obama, Harry Reid and their liberal Senate allies will surely gloat and pat themselves on the back for winning tonight’s vote in the dark of night during a rare Saturday session, while Americans were home with their families. But as they do, those moderate ... more

After months working in secret behind closed doors, Harry Reid this week finally unveiled his 2,074-page government-run health care plan. His plan would increase health care premiums, increase taxes on families and small businesses by half a trillion dollars, cut Medicare by another half trillion dollars, and allow federal funds to be used for abortions.
Harry Reid has scheduled a critical vote this Saturday night that will allow the Senate to take-up his bill. If that vote succeeds, Harry Reid will be dangerously close to finally imposing President Obama’s government-run health care scheme on America.
Two Democrat Senators – Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) – are critically important to defeating Saturday’s vote. The RNC urges every concerned citizen to call Sens. Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln TODAY and tell them to vote against Harry Reid’s liberal bill when it comes up for a vote on Saturday.

A new Rasmussen survey finds that “62% believe tax cuts are a better way to create jobs and fight unemployment.”
Further, the survey finds that “only 21% believe that additional stimulus spending is a more effective tool.”
The fact that the economy has not added jobs under Democrats’ policies, but instead continues to lose them, should be evidence enough that more taxes and spending is not a viable approach to creating jobs or jumpstarting our economy.
But the White House and Democrats in Congress do not seem to be paying attention to voters or history.
Just yesterday Senator Harry Reid introduced a government-run health care bill that will levy billions in new taxes on both individuals and businesses to create a new government entitlement.
At the same time, Democrats in both Houses, as well as the White House, claim to be entertaining ideas to stimulate job creation.
What’s the great disconnect here?

Stimulus II is coming down the pike.
Just don’t call it that.
House Speaker Pelosi made it clear last month- "We do not have plans for an additional stimulus package. But we do have plans to stimulate the economy…” she said.
Today, The Hill quotes Democratic sources who predict it’s possible the House will see an “economic package on the floor sometime in December.”
Talk of a second stimulus in the House comes on the heels of Senator Reid’s statement last week that Senate Democrats will take up a new job-creation bill and, more recently, the White House announcement of a jobs summit and tour.
Democrats are forced to take another stab at passing something to stimulate the economy and create jobs because their first package has failed.
When the Obama Administration first began selling their “stimulus” package, they promised it would keep U.S. unemployment below 8%. We are now at 10.2% with economists predicting it could go higher still.
It is no wonder the Democrats would be thinking ... more

The headlines keep coming.
And they are all saying the same thing- stimulus math cannot be trusted.
“Stimulus-jobs count in Colorado overinflated”-Denver Post
“Illinois data on stimulus-related jobs saved, created don't add up”- Chicago Tribune
“Stimulus job boost in state exaggerated, review finds”-Boston Globe
The latest is an ABC News report that shows the Obama Administration has been claiming jobs have been created in Congressional districts that do not even exist.
Recently, Vice President Biden acknowledged that the White House knows job creation stats are not "100% accurate.”
Seems he doesn’t know the half of it.

One of the first questions every Democrat in Congress should ask before casting a vote in favor of government-run health care is this: “Does the government have the capacity to efficiently run our health care system?”
One doesn’t even need to theorize –the proof that government is not equipped to take over and run one-sixth of our economy is answered in the present.
Just today, The Washington Post highlights a new federal report which finds that the federal government made $47 billion in improper Medicare payments in the past year, wasting “taxpayer money at a rate nearly three times that of the previous year.”
If the government is unable to manage a program aimed at aiding only 15% of the total U.S. population without wasting billions of taxpayer money each year, how much less will it be able to run the entire health care system with any efficiency?

Liberal group HCAN is trying to convince Senate Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor that they can vote for government-run health care before they vote against it.
As a new series of RNC videos point out, that tactic has been tried before, and now lives in campaign election infamy.
Note to Senate Democrats: A vote for cloture is a vote for government-run health care.

The bill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi forced through in the dead of night last week proposes to take over every last aspect of our health care world. If you’re a doubter, see the 2,000 paged document illustrated below.
How Democrats can propose such a radical expansion of bureaucracy and yet claim that their government-run health care plan will be deficit neutral, lower the cost of health care and guarantee those with health insurance will not see any changes to their current arrangement is laughable at best.
