RE: Weekend Messaging Memo - Say Anything Obama
This week, a hot microphone gave voters a chilling look at how President Obama really operates.
By now, we know the story. At an international summit Monday, Obama leaned over to the outgoing Russian president to ask for "space," promising "flexibility" after the election.
Flexibility for what? Disregarding public opinion?
In effect, he was telling President Medvedev what he hoped voters would never find out: that he will say anything to get reelected, but he doesn't mean any of it.
America's Campaigner-in-Chief has indeed proven he will say and do whatever is politically necessary. In 2008, he deployed phony rhetoric more unabashedly than any politician in history. It may have worked then. It won't in 2012.
That's because four years ago, Obama was an empty canvas. He could be anything to anybody: The post-partisan reformer to the disenchanted ... more

Republicans had record turnout in Louisiana’s primary election this past Saturday, but things aren’t looking so good for President “after my election I have more flexibility" Obama.
Not only did less Democrats vote in the Louisiana Democratic Primary than did in 1996, the last time a Democratic president ran for renomination unopposed, but now it looks like President Obama may actually lose Louisiana delegates to a competitor:
“If all goes according to Hoyle, after the Louisiana secretary of state's office certifies Friday the results of the Louisiana presidential primary, the state Democratic Party will determine that a Chattanooga, Tenn. attorney by the name of John Wolfe Jr. is eligible for at least three delegates to the Democratic National Convention in September.”
If even Democrats are that dissatisfied with President Obama, he may have more flexibility when the election is over after all – when he’s back in Chicago after losing in November.

They Said It!
Former Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair: Obama’s “Disappointing” View On Coal “Will Define His Re-Election Fight Here In Pennsylvania”
T.J. Rooney, Former Chairman Of Pennsylvania Democrats: Coal “Is An Issue That Will Define His Re-Election Fight Here In Pennsylvania As Well As Ohio.” “Rooney said Obama needs to address coal and the balance he will strike between environmental protection and rising energy costs: ‘It is an issue that will define his re-election fight here in Pennsylvania as well as Ohio.’" (Salena Zito, “Pa. Coal Country Skeptical Of Obama,” Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 3/25/12)
Rooney: Obama’s Refusal To Mention Coal When Discussing American Energy “Disappointing.” "Last Thursday, in what the White House touted as his ‘big American-made energy’ speech, the president never mentioned coal. ‘That's -- that is just disappointing,’ said T.J. Rooney, former chairman of Pennsylvania Democrats, who oversaw several very successful election cycles for his ... more

RE: Weekend Messaging Memo - We're Ready (and next week, more ObamaCare)
While Team Obama has been struggling to defend a failing president, the RNC has been laying the groundwork to defeat him.
We are ready for our nominee. We are activating our battleground state victory plan and are ready to roll. There's no time to waste, so we've prepared well in advance.
We will have staff in 10 of 14 battleground states by the end of April. We have already made 750,000 voter contacts in 2012 and have run voter registration programs in Nevada and Colorado.
We will unveil in the coming weeks a new digital platform with which to engage voters. Since early last year, we have been actively cultivating relationships with our grassroots supporters online and through social media. Now, this platform will enhance the various tools we currently have to empower those supporters to take our message to their friends, ... more

This is probably not the headline President Obama wanted the day before he heads to Columbus to rehash his same old energy speech - but after three years of failed energy policies, the front page of the Columbus Dispatch website says it all.

Good afternoon, when asked whether Obama will be marking the 2-year Obamacare milestone, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Obama talks about Obamacare “on occasion.” Taking a look at the White House guidance for the week, it doesn’t look like the anniversary of his signature accomplishment will be one of those occasions. Guessing they are seeing the same numbers we saw in today’s ABC/WaPo poll showing two thirds of the country wants to ditch some or all of Obamacare.
SHOT:
With Anniversary Approaching, WH Will Only Say That Obama Speaks About ObamaCare “On Occasion”
Associated Press’s Ben Feller: “Friday I believe is the anniversary of the healthcare law. And I’m wondering if we should expect to hear from the president on that milestone which of course comes right before the Supreme Court arguments or would he just as soon not make a public statement about the healthcare law and let outside groups, the campaign and others do the politicking ... more

Good morning, the Obama campaign is out with their February 2012 fundraising numbers showing Obama, combined with the money raised by the DNC, Victory Fund and State Victory Fund, with a total $45 million, down from $56.78 million Obama raised alone in February 2008. That’s despite Obama holding more fundraisers in the month of February than any month since announcing for re-election. And this on the same day the Washington Post points out high dollar donors aren’t coming back to the Obama campaign. Please see the following comment from the RNC:
“After three years of policies that have left our country with record debt, high unemployment, and soaring gas prices and healthcare costs, it’s clear President Obama is having a hard time convincing voters he deserves another term. The president who ran on change and hope has left our country wanting and whether it’s showing in fundraising or in the polls, Americans are enthusiastic about replacing him in November.” – RNC Spokesperson ... more

RE: Weekend Messaging Memo - ObamaCare
Next Friday marks the two-year anniversary of ObamaCare. On March 23, 2010, President Obama's signature legislation became law.
At the RNC, we're marking the anniversary with a thorough examination of the act's effects. The results are not pretty. ObamaCare's not passing this biannual checkup. It's costing families, hurting business, and busting the budget.
Over the next two weeks, expect to hear that message loud and clear from the RNC. Working with our allies on the Hill and in key battleground states, we're spearheading an aggressive offense to draw attention to the failures and unpopularity of ObamaCare.
We will launch an advertising campaign across multiple media platforms. We will deploy our surrogates to drive the message on the national, state, and local levels. And we will empower activists with a grassroots awareness campaign.
