Good morning, there are a lot of polls out today about the president’s job approval and the Republican primary but the most important numbers for an incumbent president are 35 – the percentage of Americans who approve of how Obama is doing on the economy and 12 – the percentage of Americans who are satisfied with the direction of our country.

Politico/George Washington University Battleground Poll: Economy drags on Obama

• Only 35 percent approved of how Obama is doing on the economy — down 3 points since September;
• 62 percent disapproved of Obama’s job on the economy;
• Just 33 percent approved of his handling of the budget, including spending and deficits;
• The president’s job approval rating is at 44 percent, with a dangerously high 51 percent disapproval. Of those who disapprove, 41 percent say they feel strongly;
• In a sample of the 19 states that could swing to either party next year, Obama’s job approval fell to 40 percent and his disapproval increased to 57 percent;
• A surge in disapproval over the past six months for Obama’s dealings with Congress. Only 38 percent approved of the president’s relationship with the Hill;
• A severe crisis of national confidence grips the country. Only 21 percent believe the next generation will be better off economically than the current one. Two-thirds say it will not;
• The GOP benefits from a continuing intensity gap, with 79 percent of Republicans saying they are extremely likely to vote next November, compared with 65 percent of Democrats.

CBS News poll: Obama disapproval rating on economy at record high

• About 60 percent of voters said they disapprove of Mr. Obama's handling of the economy, the highest on record;
• Just 34 percent approve of the job he is doing on the matter;
• His overall approval ratings are just 43 percent, while 47 percent disapprove of the job he is doing as president;
• Among independents, just 39 percent are satisfied with his performance, while 76 percent of Democrats and 12 percent of Republicans approve of his job performance;
• About 47 percent of independents disapprove of the job Mr. Obama is doing for the United States, compared to 81 percent disapproval among Republicans and 21 percent disapproval among Democrats.

Gallup poll: Jobs, Economy Remain Dominant Concerns For Americans

• Thirty-six percent say unemployment or jobs and 30% say the economy in general is the most important problem facing the United States;
• Americans are nearly twice as likely to mention any economic issue, 76%, as any non-economic issue, 39%, as the nation's top problem;
• The ongoing concern about the economy helps explain the high level of dissatisfaction with current conditions in the United States. Now, 12% of Americans are satisfied and 86% dissatisfied with the way things are going in the U.S;
• In a perhaps ominous sign for Barack Obama as he seeks re-election next year, today's 12% satisfaction rating is no better than when he took office in January 2009;
• If the economy does not recover and Americans remain highly dissatisfied with the state of the nation, Obama may join George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter as recent one-term presidents doomed by a sagging economy.
