ICYMI: Highlights From Conference Call With RNC Political Director Rick Wiley On Ad Buy In Virginia

July 2011

Posted by: Matt Sauvage

RNC Political Director Rick Wiley:

“3 weeks ago, the RNC started a month long campaign that laid out the failed economic policies of President Barack Obama ...

“You had ObamaCare, 2.6 trillion dollars, and we have states across the country filing lawsuits trying to opt out of ObamaCare...it's just one thing after another. The unemployment rate is enormous across the country.

“This ad campaign...culminates with our final ad that begins airing today in Virginia and other states across the country. The other 5 states that were up today are Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Now all 6 of these states represent victories for Barack Obama in 2008 and they also are states that President Bush carried in 2004.

“Obama hasn't done so well in Virginia...there was a new poll out today that shows his approval rating is upside down, 47% approve 48% disapprove...That's down dramatically from May where it sat at 51 to 44.

“Nationally, he is not doing well with independents. He was at a high a couple months ago of about 52% and now he's down to 36 ...

“Across the board, you see this guy's numbers tumbling and one thing that we truly believe at the RNC is that Barack Obama is beatable.

“[Obama’s] failed policies just cannot be handled anymore. And it's in stark contrast to what y'all have in Virginia where you have a leader in Governor McDonnell. Committed to job creation, he[‘s]...fiscally responsible and that's what the country's looking for...We know how crucial Virginia is with off-year elections this year and then next year it gets our grassroots guys a trial run before we put the grassroots program in place in Virginia and these other battleground states around the country in order to make sure Barack Obama is a one term president.”
