RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:
“This morning President Obama unveiled his budget for the upcoming fiscal year and as my friend Paul Ryan has called it – it’s just an unserious budget with serious consequences. The president is absolutely gambling with our children’s future, he’s making a political bet that Americans won’t pay attention to his fourth consecutive trillion dollar budget deficit…There is a narrative building that Obama’s promises don’t mean anything. This is the president who is all about rhetoric…
“The president said over and over again that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term and now for the second year in a row he has topped last year’s deficit with not only not cutting the deficit in half but actually proposing the biggest structural deficit in the history of the universe…
“The Democrat controlled Senate has failed to pass a budget for over 1,000 days… On Capitol Hill and in states across the country Republican governors are showing the alternative. They are enacting balanced budgets while reducing taxes and burdensome regulations…”
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell:
“This budget to me represents an absolute and astounding lack of leadership and inability to make the tough decisions and to govern our country well. I look at the 3.8 trillion dollar budget proposed now by the president for 2013. Laced with a trillion and a half in tax hikes and a failure to do anything really material to get our deficit and our debt under control.
“We have a problem now that every American is beginning to understand and that is the crushing level of debt and what it means for the future and for their kids and grandkids. This debt is unsustainable…I think the president in his budget has failed to tackle in any material way the deficit and debt problem that faces our nation…”
“The president promised that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. And of course nothing could be farther from the truth. We are not anywhere near that area. And in fact, this president now with 4.7 trillion dollars added to the national debt during his presidency, now has the distinction of having the largest amount of debt in any presidential term in American history. And it is not something that can be sustained…”
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin:
“We have to set priorities, we have to balance our budgets and we have to listen to the people in our state…the people in Oklahoma have told me that, unlike what’s going on in Washington and with President Obama,…they don’t want us…to run a deficit in the state of Oklahoma…
“We have to balance our state budget but yet the president continues to run the deficits and the debt and, of course…it is scary to the people of not only our nation but also our businesses in our nation
“When we talk about how we’re going to balance our budget, people in our state want us to set priorities, not by raising taxes, and by also looking at ways to cut spending to make government more efficient and more effective…
“And, unlike the current atmosphere in Washington, that I believe creates a lot of uncertainty…in the marketplace, the state of Oklahoma is focusing on what we can do to create more certainty…to create an atmosphere that focuses on job creation and business growth..."
