RNC Chairman Priebus Statement on House Passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act

December 2011

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement on House Republicans vote to extend the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act:

“Today, House Republicans upheld their promise to hard-working Americans and extended the payroll tax cut on a bipartisan vote. Now, Senate Democrats and President Obama must act, or the New Year will bring painful tax increases for the middle class.

“In addition to these important tax cuts, the bipartisan House legislation creates 20,000 construction jobs by approving the Keystone XL pipeline project. Furthermore, America will benefit from access to a secure energy source.

“President Obama said extending the tax cut is his top legislative priority. But now, for selfish political reasons, he said he will veto the legislation. If so, President Obama will be solely responsible for raising taxes on 160 million Americans already suffering because of his disastrous economic policies.

“House Republicans have done their part. Now, it’s time for Senate Democrats to pass this bill. If Democrats do not act, the middle class will be the victims of their political posturing, and they will be held accountable next November.”
