Statement From RNC Chairman Michael Steele On The Vermont Primaries

August 2010

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele released the following statement this evening:

“Tonight, Vermont voters sent a clear message that they want candidates on the ballot who are laser focused on growing Vermont’s economy and creating jobs.  And this evening, they did just that by nominating Republicans that are committed to smaller government, lower taxes, and job creation.  The Republican Party is excited to have a core group of strong candidates led by Brian Dubie who will stand up to the big government, tax-and-spend agenda in Montpelier and Washington, D.C.

“While the reckless economic policies of Washington, D.C. have pushed the nation’s unemployment rate to 9.5%, under Republican Governor Jim Douglas, Vermont’s state unemployment rate is among the lowest in the country. It is clear that Brian Dubie is the best candidate to continue Vermont on a strong path forward.  In November, the people of Vermont will elect Republicans offering common sense solutions to create jobs and improve the economy.”
