72 is another key number. In October, eight Democrat Senators wrote a letter to Majority Leader Reid asking that all legislation get posted to the internet for public viewing, along with a formal cost estimate, at least 72 hours before it is voted on.
This morning, Senator Reid introduced the omnibus amendment to his bill which incorporates all of the last-minute deals he’s been making to get votes. To ram this unpopular bill through as quickly as possible, Reid is planning to ignore the calls of his colleagues. We’re expecting a vote at 1 AM early Monday morning, but we’ve posted a countdown clock here at gop.com so you can see whether or not the Senators keep their promise.
That is why we have started our “Counting Up To Another Broken Promise” 72 Hours Clock. To learn more, see our latest Research Briefing, “In A Reckless Rush.”
