Ohio gubernatorial candidate John Kasich just took the stage at today's summit to a standing ovation from fired up Republicans from Ohio and elsewhere in the region. He followed former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, who spoke to the attendees about the importance of believing in themselves and stood as an example that women can do anything in our Party.

Former Representative Kasich is speaking about the importance of making sure that we hand down an America to our children and grandchildren that is even greater than the country that was handed down to us. We can do that by educating our children, lowering taxes on individuals and small businesses and providing a government that is closer to the people.  He's absolutely right when he says that the legacy of America is handing it down to the next generation better than we found it.

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) just finished up her address at the RNC Regional Women's Summit in Columbus.  She gave an inspiring talk about the gains the Republican Party has made nationally and the opportunity our party has to change the balance of power in 2010.

Senator Murkowski also gave an update on the status of health care reform legislation.  The simple fact is that the voters don't trust Washington to fundamentally take over such a large segment of our national economy.  The Democrats had multiple opportunities to slow down, go back to the drawing board and listen to the American people.  What the people want is a bill without partisan bias.  Instead, the Democrats marginalized the voices calling on Washington to slow down and rushed ahead with a bill that is too big, too expensive and that does not have the support of the American people.

Senator Murkowski also brought the crowd to its feet when she reminded the Democrats in Washington that it is 'We the ... more

A panel discussion is underway featuring Ohio U.S. Senate candidate Rob Portman, Ohio GOP State Chairman Kevin DeWine and several other statewide GOP candidates in Ohio.  The focus of the panel is on empowering the grassroots to win elections.  Elections are won in Ohio just as they are all over the country - with friends and neighbors going door to door and making the phone calls that are necessary to win.

Earlier, RNC Political Director Gentry Collins presented data to the summit showing how far the the GOP has come nationally since election day 2008.  Across the board, but especially on economic and tax policy, Republicans have made significant gains when the public is polled on who they trust to better handle the issues.  Republicans now lead on congressional generic ballot tests and Democrats are forced to defend far more marginal seats in Congress than are Republicans.

While polling data is one thing, real election results are quite another.  And in that ... more

Despite a winter storm warning, several hundred women braved the snow this morning to attend the Regional Women's Summit in Columbus, OH.

The RNC Women's Programs hosts this series of summits to give women around the country the opportunity to network, get involved and hear from a dynamic lineup of speakers about how they can help win elections back home in their own towns, counties and states.  Today's lineup includes U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, former Rep. John Kasich and Ohio Senate candidate Rob Portman.

Women are not a coalition or a minority in American politics - they are the majority.  Gains among women voters in recent elections in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts drove Republicans to victory in each one of them.  Today's summit will help build on those gains and activate and train hundreds of new volunteers from Ohio and surrounding states.

Please stay tuned for summit updates throughout the day.  ... more

With the White House's health care summit at it's halfway point, the meeting looks more like a bait and switch trick on a used car lot than a negotiation over how to make health care more accessible and affordable.

The White House and congressional Democrats lured Republicans to the table with the promise that conservative reforms to health care would be considered.  But as the date of the summit neared, the White House made clear that the only bill up for discussion would be the proposal released this week by President Obama based on the Democratic bill passed by the Senate.

And once the bait of an open negotiation brought Republicans to the table today, the switch became clear this afternoon with a Politico story reporting that "Democrats plan to begin rhetorical, and perhaps legislative, steps toward the Democrats-only, or reconciliation, process early next week."

President Obama and Democrats in Congress never had any interest in Republican input.  Nancy Pelosi and Harry ... more

The White House will convene a “bipartisan summit” on health care tomorrow with Republican leaders and Congressional Democrats.  Unfortunately, this summit will be held on the Democrats’ playing field and will be conducted under their terms.

Instead of starting from the beginning with Republican cooperation, President Obama decided to double down on the previous failed health care bills.  His proposal released this week was, according to the Wall Street journal, “based on what the Senate passed in December, adding more spending, more subsidies and a revised mix of taxes.”

We can do better than that.  Just because the White House and Congressional Democrats won’t consider Republican ideas on the floor of the House and Senate or at this upcoming summit does not mean the ideas don’t exist.  In fact, Republicans have advocated for a better way from the very beginning.

Almost three years ago, Senator Mike Enzi, the ranking member of the Senate Health Committee, began his push for 10 ... more

With elections in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, the voters of America sent an unmistakable message to the Obama Administration about the proposed takeover of health care.  Today, the White House has given their response to that message sent by the people:  Return to Sender.

Ahead of a PR stunt billed as a bipartisan summit, the Obama White House today released their new plan to take over 1/6th of our nation's economy.  Unfortunately, the only thing new about the plan is the marketing campaign.  This proposal, distilled from the previous Democrat bills that according to opinion polls and election results were roundly rejected by the American people, offers more of the same from the Obama Administration and the Democrat leaders in Congress - more taxes, more spending, and more government control.

If the President was truly interested in a bipartisan solution to health care, he would begin his summit this week with an open slate and an open hand.  Instead, his White House ... more

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of the signing into law of the $862 billion dollar “stimulus” package.

Never one to miss an opportunity to trumpet increased government spending, President Obama sent cabinet members, White House officials and party operatives yesterday into every corner of the country to tout the jobs that were supposedly “created or saved” by the stimulus bill.

There are only about 3.3 million problems with that storyline pushed by the White House.  Since the president signed the bill into law, that’s how many Americans have lost their jobs.  In reality, the number is likely far higher given the way unemployment numbers are reported.

This hasn’t stopped the Obama Adminsitration from waging an all-out PR offensive on behalf of this boondoggle of a bill.  The signs on construction projects seem to be popping up all over.  The government is pushing those signs out so fast that the state of New York has spent nearly a million dollars simply on stimulus ... more

A lesson that the Obama Administration and their allies in Congress have apparently never learned is that the first thing to be done when you're in a hole is stop digging.

Now, new polling shows that 57 percent of Americans believe Congress should scrap the Democrats' health reform bill and start over.  The PR hole the Democrats have dug themselves is getting deeper by the day.  Yet the Obama White House, along with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, are sticking to their guns and will be pushing their rejected ideas and their so-called "bipartisan" televised summit to be held on February 25.

Recent polls show that a majority of the American people oppose the current health bill.  More than 56 percent of voters would prefer Congress tackle health care on a piece by piece basis as Republicans have been arguing for months.  Yet despite this wave of public opposition to their takeover scheme, the Democrats continue to press forward with a bill that no one seems to want other than a ... more
