Harry Reid, with his hold on both the Democrat majority in the U.S. Senate and his own seat slipping, said yesterday that he “had nothing to do with” the economic conditions that have led to an unemployment rate in Nevada over 14 percent.
While there are many reasons for the economic downturn, Senator Reid is certainly right that he has had nothing to do with any real efforts to try to lift America’s economy out of recession.
Instead of providing tax relief to individuals and small businesses, Reid has worked with Nancy Pelosi and President Obama to enact more than $670 billion in tax increases, almost half of which will hit middle class families. It’s little wonder that the economy in Nevada and the United States continues to lag when Democrat leaders like Harry Reid continue to pile on billions of dollars in new tax hikes.
And instead of working to cut red tape and get government out of the way of job creation, Harry Reid worked hand in hand with Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama to enact a massive government takeover of health care that has a perverse side effect of penalizing small businesses that grow to more than 50 employees. The uncertainty caused by ObamaCare is already causing small businesses to slow their growth, which in turn is leaving more and more people in Nevada and the United States out of work.
The American people have had enough of the Washington blame game practiced so well by Harry Reid and the Democrats in Congress and the White House. Instead of facing our problems and dealing with them in a serious way, Reid and the Democrats have been busy trying to find new ways to blame the Bush Administration for their difficulties. The American people have had enough of Harry Reid making our economic hole deeper and deeper through new tax hikes and more regulations, but then trying to pass the buck by saying he “had nothing to do with” it.
Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama had every chance to get our economy moving again. Instead of serious responses to the economy like tax relief and responsible spending, the Democrat leaders in Washington have provided only failed bailouts and empty blame games. The American people are ready for new leadership in Washington, and ready to elect a new Republican majority to Congress this November.
