In February, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said of the federal takeover of health care, “It’s about jobs. In its life, it will create 4 million jobs – 400,000 jobs almost instantly.”
Wrong again. According to the federal government’s jobs report that month, 14.9 million Americans were out of work in February. That number is exactly the same as the 14.9 million unemployed Americans the government reported last month.
Now, instead of taking the first real steps toward economic recovery by extending the Bush tax cuts for every American, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are rushing their chambers to adjourn until after the November elections, at which time they say they may or may not take up legislation extending the tax cuts.
What are they waiting for? The Democrats’ bailout of Wall Street, their failed stimulus plans financed on the backs of future Americans and their steadfast refusal to deliver tax relief to the American people is prolonging the stagnation in the job market and making it harder and harder for American families to keep their heads above water.
For months, Republicans have called for votes on the floor of each chamber of Congress to extend the Bush tax cuts for every American. Each time, the Democrat majority stuck their heads in the sand and waited to see if their next liberal experiment in economic policy might do the trick. And while the Democrats spent most of the year on ObamaCare, more and more Americans found themselves out of a job.
Barack Obama and the Democrat majority said their stimulus plan would save or create millions of jobs. Nancy Pelosi said ObamaCare would create 400,000 jobs “almost instantly.” Yet unemployment has lingered at nearly 10 percent for more than 16 consecutive months.
The time for empty promises from Nancy Pelosi has passed. The time for reduced government spending, tax relief for every American, and a new Republican majority, is here.
