One of the most important demographics in American politics is senior citizens – and President Obama and the Pelosi Congress are losing their support in droves.
The reason seniors are moving away from the Democrats in Congress and the White House is clear – given control of the executive and legislative branches of government, the Democrats responded by enacting a government takeover of health care that will raise costs but lower the quality of care.
According to a new Gallup poll, seniors are the least likely of all age brackets to say that ObamaCare will benefit their personal healthcare situation. By a margin of 3 to 1, seniors are more likely to believe that ObamaCare will limit their access to care.
Even worse than perception of the bill is its reality for millions of seniors. ObamaCare cuts $233 billion from Medicare Part A and B payments to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies, and many doctors have stopped seeing seniors and refused Medicare patients.
ObamaCare carries with it billions of dollars in new taxes, and cuts $145 billion from the popular Medicare Advantage plans relied upon by many seniors. Raising taxes while reducing access to care is no way to improve the lives of America’s senior citizens, and is a recipe for electoral disaster for Democrats in Congress this fall and for President Obama two years from now.
