In a staged Labor Day event before union members yesterday, President Obama unveiled his latest plan to spur job growth in the face of stagnant unemployment.  Following the same failed blueprint of his previous $800 billion stimulus package last year, the President announced a plan to spend at least another $50 billion on infrastructure such as roads and highways. 

What the President didn’t announce, but was later said by a White House aide, was that even the Democrats in the White House know that the plan won’t create any jobs until sometime in 2011.  With almost 15 million Americans out of work, and with unemployment stuck at almost 10 percent, the American people need help now, not a year from now. 

Even worse is the fact that the White House rolled out this new stimulus plan without having any way to pay for it.  This has become standard operating procedure for the Obama White House, which has borrowed hundreds of billions of dollars, and raised taxes nearly as much, to pay for its flawed attempts to stimulate the economy, bail out Wall Street and take over America’s health care system.  

Instead of borrowing money to pay for stimulus spending targeted toward creating jobs a year from now, Republicans offer the American people a better way forward.  Republicans have a 12-point advantage on the generic Congressional ballot according to Rasmussen Reports for a reason.  The voters know that a Republican Congress will vote to get money back into the hands of individuals and small businesses as quickly as possible through targeted tax relief that will give our economy a jump start.  The voters know that a Republican Congress will vote to get the deficit under control, and won’t spend $50 billion in taxpayer money on political stunts that will do little to create jobs in the near term. 

The Democrat majority in Congress, and the Obama White House, are simply out of ideas.  It’s time to turn the page and elect a Republican Congress that will get America moving again.
