December 2010

The Pelosi Congress, continuing to play politics with our nation’s economic recovery, has set a vote for Thursday in the U.S. House to extend just a few of the Bush tax cuts set to expire at the end of December. Despite promises of good faith negotiations from the Obama White House, Nancy Pelosi and leading House Democrats continue to push to allow hundreds of billions of dollars of tax hikes to hit just as our economy struggles to turn the corner.
Republicans in the U.S. Senate have it right. In a letter delivered to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, each Republican Senator pledged to block any action during the lame duck session if the extension of the tax cuts and final work on the annual spending bills is not completed first.
Under the bill Pelosi will force to a vote on Thursday, more than 750,000 small businesses would see a tax increase next year. These tax hikes would affect nearly 50 percent of small business income and 25 percent of the entire workforce. At a time when the government should be helping small businesses create jobs, Nancy Pelosi wants to raise their taxes and make it harder for small business owners to invest and grow their companies.
The reason Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats want more money from the American people is simple – so that they can spend it. When faced with staggering deficits, the Pelosi Congress finds excuses to raise taxes, not reasons to cut spending. That is a chief reason that the American people turned Nancy Pelosi out of power in November and will do the same to Barack Obama in 2012.
