ICYMI: Democrat Agrees With Chairman Priebus, Calls CNN & NBC Clinton Programs Inappropriate
WASHINGTON— Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus joined Trish Regan on Bloomberg’s “Street Smart” to discuss withholding Republican presidential primary debates in 2016 if the networks don’t drop their plans to air programs about Hillary Clinton, ahead of her likely candidacy for president in 2016. Democrat Leo Hindery agreed with Chairman Priebus that it is wrong for the networks’ actions to influence Americans’ political decisions.

CHAIRMAN PRIEBUS: Well, look, we had a 23-debate traveling circus last time around, and the last thing I want to do is add more debates that will promote agencies and companies that are going out of their way to make sure that they’re promoting Hillary Clinton. Which, obviously she’s gearing up to run for president – and even if she doesn’t, then they ought to just wait. So, you know, look, I think we have a right to protect the brand of the Republican Party and to protect our candidates. I think we have to stand up for ourselves instead of sitting around and letting these networks do whatever they want, slap us around, and then depose our candidates in a 23-debate circus. That’s not going to happen. I’m not going to sit here and put up with it. That’s all.
LEO HINDERY: Reince, it’s Leo Hindery. I think that the earth just stopped spinning on its axis, but I couldn’t agree with you more.
TRISH REGAN: We should just tell our viewers, Leo is a big supporter of the Democratic party.
HINDERY: You know, I am as much a Democrat as Reince is a Republican. It is simply wrong to do this. I would have an attack if I thought a Rick Santorum documentary was being run, a bi-op was being run on one of the networks. I think it is inappropriate as a run-up. We have so commercialized – we’ve so televisionized – the political process, Reince, that I think you’re highly, highly qualified and well-spoken on this issue. It shouldn’t happen on either party’s side – my side, your side – as a run-up to ‘16. This is a bad, bad trend. Again, I would hate it if Santorum had a bi-op on one of the nets, as Reince, I think, should be upset that there’s a bi-op about Mrs. Clinton.
GUEST: But I wonder, why would you assume it’s going to be a good picture and sort of log Hillary? I wouldn’t even want to watch something that was a bi-op on Rick Santorum, I don’t think it would paint him in a very good light. I read Blood Sport, by Jimmy Stewart. I don’t know that it’s necessarily going to be a piece that makes her look good. The Clintons have had some –
HINDERY: It is not going to be a bad piece.
