Republicans Win Colorado State Senate Recalls
Please see the following information about the Colorado recall elections last night. Republicans won in Colorado state Senate District 3 and Senate District 11 despite the significant Dem partisan registration advantage in both districts, robo calls from Bill Clinton, and significant money that poured in to protect the Democrat Senate President John Morse (SD 11) and State Senator Angela Giron (SD 3). The RNC was on the ground offering field support in Colorado (details below). On the DNC’s side we’re seeing nothing but hypocrisy. Despite supporting recall elections in Wisconsin in 2011, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is now calling recall efforts voter suppression.
Statement From Chairman Priebus On The Colorado Recall Election Results:
“Congratulations to Senators-elect Bernie Herpin and George Rivera on their victories,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “Bernie and George ran impressive campaigns, and I’m confident they’ll be strong additions to the Colorado Senate. Republicans are going to compete for every vote in Colorado, and tonight is only the beginning of our path to victory in 2014.”
RNC Provided Grassroots Support For Colorado Recall Elections:
Working to help win recall elections in Senate Districts 3 and 11, the RNC was on the ground with equipment, data resources, and staffers on the ground recruiting and organizing volunteers and working with county parties and the campaigns to achieve weekly voter contact goals.
Partisan Composition Of Each District:
- SD 11 (Colorado Springs) is 26% R, 40% U, and 34% D
- SD 3 (Pueblo) is 23% R, 31% U, and 45% D
DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz Hypocrisy On Recall Elections:
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL): “Thousands Of Wisconsinites Mounted This Effort In The Face Of A Flood Of Out Of State, Secret, And Corporate Special Interest Money.” “Despite the disappointing outcome of tonight’s election, there is no question that over the past year this recall effort sent a message to Scott Walker that his brand of divisive politics is offensive and wrong. Thousands of Wisconsinites mounted this effort in the face of a flood of out of state, secret and corporate special interest money– amounting to a massive $31 million war chest for Governor Walker to just $4 million on our side.” (Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Op-Ed, “Wasserman Schultz Takes Stand On Recall Results”, The Huffington Post, 6/6/12)
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz Supported Wisconsin Recall. “Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has said Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s ‘attacks on workers’ and women’s rights are the definition of a fireable offense’ and that recalling him would ‘[send] a powerful message to the far-right extremists.’” (Kyle Leighton, “DNC Chair: ‘There Aren’t Going To Be Any Repercussions’ If Walker Wins In Wisconsin”, TPM, 5/25/12)
