5 Times Clinton Looked Into A Camera And Misled About An FBI Investigation

- May 11, 2016

The FBI Director Jim Comey Challenged Clinton's Repeated Claim That The FBI Investigation Into Her Email Server Is A "Security Inquiry." "The head of the FBI appeared to challenge Hillary Clinton's characterization of the federal investigation into her private email server on Wednesday. Clinton and her allies have repeatedly called the probe a routine 'security inquiry.' But Director James Comey told reporters that that wasn't an accurate description. 'It's in our name. I'm not familiar with the term 'security inquiry,'' Comey said at a roundtable with reporters, according to Politico." (Julian Hattem, "FBI Head Challenges Clinton's Description Of Email Probe," The Hill, 5/11/16)

Lie #1: On Face The Nation This Weekend

Clinton: "I Say What I Have Said Now For Many, Many Months. It's A Security Inquiry." CBS'S JOHN DICKERSON: JOHN DICKERSON: "Some voters may be paying attention now in a different kind of way, what's your answer to those people who think, 'Gee, F.B.I. inquiry. That's a big deal.' What do you say to them?" CLINTON: "I say what I've said now for many, many months. It's a security inquiry. I always took classified material seriously. There was never any material marked classified that was sent or received-- by me. And I-- look forward to this being wrapped up." (CBS's "Face The Nation," 5/8/16)

Lie #2: On Meet The Press Last Month

Clinton: "I Have To Let Them Decide How To Resolve Their Security Inquiry." NBC's CHUCK TODD: "Are you concerned that this isn't going to wrap up before the convention?" CLINTON: "No, I'm not, because I don't think anything inappropriate was done. And so I have to let them decide how to resolve their security inquiry. But I'm not at all worried about it." (NBC's " Meet The Press," 4/3/16)

Lie #3: On Face The Nation In March

Clinton: "It's A Security Review." CBS'S JOHN DICKERSON: "Let me ask you a question about something that was in the news this week. Bryan Pagliano, the former State Department staffer, was granted immunity from prosecution in the criminal investigation into your e-mail server. And when this happened, I talked to Democrats and they worry that somebody is going to get indicted." CLINTON: "Well, there is no basis for that. It's a security review. I'm delighted that he has agreed to cooperate, as everyone else has." (CBS's "Face The Nation," 3/6/16)

Lie #4: In An Interview On CNBC In March

Clinton: "This Is The Same Security Review That Has Been Going On Since Last Spring." CNBC'S JOHN HARWOOD: "Let me ask about quickly about e-mail. Your republican have openly begun to suggest that you could be prosecuted or go to jail as a result of this issue. When the average person out there hears there's an FBI investigation and some guy who worked for her has gotten immunity from prosecution, shouldn't they be tempted to conclude like, 'well, maybe she could get prosecuted?'" CLINTON: "No, not at all. This is the same security review that has been going on since last spring. I'm happy that everybody now has been cooperating and giving information because I think that will finally end this and show that only appropriate steps were taken. So you know I know the republicans are engaging in a lot of wishful thinking but this is not." ( CNBC Now, 3/4/16)

Lie #5: In A Democratic Presidential Debate In February

Clinton: "This Is A Security Review That Was Requested." NBC'S CHUCK TODD: "All right, Madam Secretary, there is an open -- there is an open FBI investigation into this matter about how you may have handled classified material. Are you 100 percent confident that nothing is going to come of this FBI investigation?" CLINTON: "I am 100 percent confident. This is a security review that was requested. It is being carried out. It will be resolved. But I have to add if there's going to be a security review about me, there's going to have to be security reviews about a lot of other people, including Republican office holders, because we've got this absurd situation of retroactive classifications." (MSNBC/New Hampshire Union Leader Democratic Presidential Debate, 2/4/16)
