Bill Clinton Intel Chiefs: Hillary's Secret Email "Irresponsible," "Dangerous"

RNC Communications - August 20, 2015

Earlier today Bill Clinton’s former CIA chief blasted Hillary’s secret email server calling it “very irresponsible” and said using it to pass state secrets could be “a felony.” And just yesterday, Michael Hayden – who was appointed by Clinton as NSA Director – said the server was “stupid and dangerous” and that it “put a very juicy target out there.” The sharp criticism from two top Clinton Administration intelligence officials comes as new questions are being raised about whether Hillary Clinton broke additional State Department regulations governing unmarked classified information. More below from RNC Research:

Fmr. Clinton Intel Chiefs: Hillary Email Scandal “Irresponsible,” “Dangerous”

Today, Bill Clinton’s CIA Director Said Clinton’s “Irresponsible” Use Of A Private Email System  To Pass State Secrets A “Felony”

R. James Woolsey, CIA Director Under Bill Clinton: Clinton Setting Up A Private Email System Is “Very Irresponsible.”  “Not really. I think the key thing to watch here is the state department inspector general, because he has come out on the same side as the Inspector General for the intelligence community. They both say there were classified materials in these emails. Particularly they emphasize there is material about signals intercepts and photo reconnaissance satellites and that is classified clearly. There is no real argument about things that come from those sources or quoted from those sources. They are, the word classified doesn't appear on the document. the word would be confidential, secret or top secret and it may have a code word attached to it because it comes from say, a photo reconnaissance satellite but anybody who has been at the senior levels of government knows that anything from those sources is classified. And I suppose on some of these emails there could be an argument as to whether it should have been classified or not, a conversation between her and her senior staff members, if there's nothing clearly classified in it, then maybe -- but, what is really wrong here was setting up this separate email system and using it for government work. If anybody wants to set one up and use it for yoga appointments, wedding planning, okay, fine. But to have a server in a bathroom closet in Colorado that is dealing with potentially extremely classified material because it is material that is passing through the secretary of state's conversations with her staff, that's really very irresponsible.” (Fox News’ “America's Newsroom,” 8/20/15)

  • Woolsey: Clinton’s Use Of A Private Email System Is A “Felony.” MACCALLUM:Let me ask you, so, for anybody who is passing information that deals with signals or intercepts, and if that turns out to be the case what would the punishment be for that?” WOOLSEY: “Well, I don't know but, it is a felony I think. And there are some ways of dealing with this, putting something in the wrong place and making a mistake that are only a misdemeanor. But we've had now several of my successors in the intelligence business at senior levels be, plead to charges and, be in situations where it is clear that they violated the law, and some of those things look very similar to what has happened here.” (Fox News’ “America's Newsroom,” 8/20/15)

Yesterday, Former Bill Clinton NSA Director Michael Hayden Claimed Clinton’s Use Of A Secret Email Server Was Stupid, Dangerous And Against Policy

Michael Hayden, Former Director Of The NSA: Clinton “Put A Very Juicy Target Out There.” HAYDEN: “Let me turn that around, Joe and ask a slightly different question. What would I have done as the director of NSA, against a foreign minister who had done that? I'd move heaven and earth to access the private email account of a foreign minister. And I really go after an email account in which the official and the unofficial emails were co-mingled. You put a very juicy target out there.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 8/19/15)

  • Hayden: Clinton’s Use Of Private Email Was “Stupid And Dangerous.” HAYDEN: “The original sin is actually co-mingling the two accounts and not using a government e-mail server. Look, there's a big gray area that exists even in the unclassified government email accounts. But you're fire-walled against most wrongdoing there by the fact you're using a government account that has some protections to it. Once you remove that, I'm stunned that her staff allowed her to do that in 2009 given the unhappy outcome that this guaranteed once you started doing that.”  BRZEZINSKI:  “I thought it was legal and that everything was aboveboard.” HAYDEN: “Number one, put legality aside for a second, it's stupid and dangerous.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 8/19/15)
  • Hayden: I Don’t Think Clinton’s Use Of Private Email “Was Legal” And It “Has To Be Against Policy.” HAYDEN: “I don't even think it was legal. That has to be against policy. Look, most folks like me, I never had a smart phone until I left government because of the sensitivity of the information I would put on there even if it were unclassified.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 8/19/15)
