If you aren’t caught up on the war California lawmakers are waging against U.S. immigration laws, here are the facts:
The Trump administration filed suit to block three laws passed by the California legislature that make it more difficult for the U.S. government to enforce immigration law, putting Americans in danger.
- One law prohibits CA businesses from fully cooperating with federal immigration officials.
- Another gives California’s Justice Dept. the ability to have oversight over U.S. immigration detention facilities.
- A third law prevents California law enforcement from cooperating with federal authorities on the detention of illegal immigrants in custody.
And it gets worse. The other week, the mayor of Oakland publically sounded the alarm to criminal illegal immigrants of an incoming ICE raid. The mayor’s warning may have led to illegal immigrants with violent and sex-related convictions being able to evade capture and deportation.
If the shoe were on the other foot and Texas had taken actions like this against a Dem admin, there would be screaming headlines about Texas’ attempts to secede.
In a press conference today, Governor Jerry Brown and California Attorney General Becerra played politics and made personal attacks on President Trump and Attorney General Sessions. But they struggled to answer basic questions about how California’s new laws are not unconstitutional.
Governor Brown repeatedly refused to defend Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s decision to warn dangerous illegal immigrants the authorities were looking for them:
And Governor Brown was unable to provide any evidence to back up his claims that ICE is targeting law-abiding immigrants:
