Clinton Has No Plan To Pay For Repealing The Cadillac Tax

- October 11, 2015

Clinton Called For Repealing ObamaCare’s Unpopular Cadillac Tax. “Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she would support repealing a tax on high-priced health insurance plans that was enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act, a provision reviled by labor unions because it affects many of their members’ plans.” (Laura Meckler and Stephanie Armour, “Hillary Clinton Supports Repealing ‘Cadillac Tax’ On Health Plans,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/29/15)

  • Clinton Claims That Limiting Tax Deductions Would For Drug Companies Would Pay For The Tax’s Lost Revenue. “The cost of the repeal—about $80 billion over 10 years—should be offset with other changes she has proposed, Mrs. Clinton said, such as limiting tax deductions for prescription drug companies. Her campaign has said the ideas she put on the table last week would raise more than $100 billion over 10 years.” (Laura Meckler and Stephanie Armour, “Hillary Clinton Supports Repealing ‘Cadillac Tax’ On Health Plans,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/29/15)

Clinton Has Not Provided Any Specifics On How She Would Replace Lost Tax Revenue To Fund The Law.  “The tax is imposed on employers, who can avoid it by reducing benefits to their workers. Its purpose is to help rein in health care costs over all." Pure and simple, this is a labor play by Clinton (Sanders has already proposed scrapping the Cadillac Tax). But here's our question to Clinton, Sanders, and labor: How will make up for the cost containment? Everyone wants the goodies in the health-care law, but few want to eat the broccoli.” (Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann, “First Read: More (TV Ad) Money, More Problems,” NBC News, 9/30/15)

Clinton Followed Bernie Sanders On His Call For Repeal Of The Tax. “Last week, Mr. Sanders came out in favor of repealing the tax on high-priced insurance plans.” (Laura Meckler and Stephanie Armour, “Hillary Clinton Supports Repealing ‘Cadillac Tax’ On Health Plans,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/29/15)
