Clinton Flips On Using The Words “Illegal Immigrant”

- December 18, 2015

When Asked If She Would Forgo The Term “Illegal Immigrant” During A Facebook Q&A, Clinton Said “Yes.”  “’Yes, I will,’ Mrs. Clinton responded while logged in to Facebook during a stop in Boulder, Colorado. ‘That was a poor choice of words. As I’ve said throughout this campaign, the people at the heart of this issue are children, parents, families, Dreamers. They have names, and hopes and dreams that deserve to be respected.’” (S.A. Miller, “Hillary Clinton Apologizes For Saying ‘Illegal Immigrants,’” The Washington Times, 11/24/15)

Clinton Claims She's "Historically" Not Used Term "Illegal Immigrant." RAMOS: "So first question, would you commit right now to not use the term 'illegal' or 'illegals' when referring to undocumented immigrants." CLINTON: "Oh yeah. You know, that was a poor choice of words and obviously, historically, I haven't used it since and won't use it in the future." (Hillary Clinton, Remarks At Black And Brown Forum, 1/11/16)

Clinton Has Used The Term "Illegal Immigrants" Throughout Her Political Career

In October 2015, Clinton Boasted That She "Voted Numerous Times When I Was A Senator To Spend Money To Build A Barrier To Try To Prevent Illegal Immigrants From Coming In." "'Well, I voted numerous times when I was a Senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in,' Clinton told the audience. 'And I do think you have to control your borders." (Sam Frizell, "Martin O'Malley Hits Hillary Clinton For Saying 'Illegal Immigrants," Time, 11/12/15)

In A 2003 Radio Interview, Clinton Said, "I Am Adamantly Against Illegal Immigrants." "We've got to do several things and I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants. I made this exception basically on humanitarian grounds because of the individual story but certainly we've got to do more at our borders. And people have to stop employing illegal immigrants. Come up to Westchester, go to Suffolk and Nassau counties, stand in the street corners in Brooklyn or the Bronx - you're going to see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work and construction work and domestic work." (John Gambling, "John Gambling Radio Show," 2/03)

Clinton In 1993: "We Are Left With A Serious Problem, Because We Have A Number Of Undocumented Workers And Illegal Aliens In The Country Right Now." CLINTON: "But we are left with a serious problem, because we have a number of undocumented workers and illegal aliens in the country right now. And they do show up in our emergency rooms, and they do use our public health facilities." (Hillary Clinton, Committee On Ways And Means, U.S. House Of Representatives, Testimony, 9/28/93)
