As the presidential race heads into Labor Day weekend, Hillary Clinton is losing momentum with voters after two straight weeks of scandals and months of stonewalling.
In Florida, Trump is leading in several recent polls and within the margin of error in another.
In North Carolina, the most recent poll has Trump up 2.
It’s clear this is going to be a competitive race all the way down to the wire.
Clinton also has sunk to a career low in favorability. 56% percent of voters now regard her unfavorably, the lowest percentage of her entire career. That includes slipping by 9 points with women.
What accounts for her terrible slide?
Let’s start with the continual revelations surrounding the Clinton Foundation. The AP reported that a majority of her meetings with non-government individuals when she was Secretary of State were with donors to the Clinton Foundation, a glaring indication of the culture of pay-to-play politics she fostered when running the State Department.
But it gets worse with the Clinton Foundation. It’s clear Bill Clinton used taxpayer dollars to subsidize it – including the salaries of staffers making six-figures. The American people deserve better than having their tax dollars prop up a slush fund for Clinton cronies.
But that wasn’t the only thing. It was recently discovered a Clinton Foundation donor who gave millions to the foundation was denied a visa over terrorism concerns. Even worse, this donor had previously gained access to top State officials, and it’s not hard to guess why. The conflicts of interest surrounding the Clinton Foundation aren’t just wildly unethical, they have dangerous implications for national security.
Things have gotten so murky and scandalous at the Clinton Foundation that even the liberal New York Times is calling for the Clintons to stop accepting foreign and corporate contributions and distance themselves completely from it.
There’s also new revelations about how Hillary Clinton was still sending classified information on her secret email server, even after she left the State Department. Doing this is bad enough, and to make matters worse the web of lies she has woven around how she recklessly jeopardized national security seems to still be growing by the day.
To top it off, the American people still have not heard Clinton come clean about all her shady business and above-the-law mentality. She’s now gone over 270 days without a press conference because she cannot give honest and coherent answers about what happened at the Clinton Foundation or with her secret server. She’s worried any answer she gives will contradict a previous lie.
With the scandals continuing to mount and the polls continuing to tighten, Hillary Clinton is losing steam as the race enters the home stretch. Bad news for her, but good for voters who want responsible, fair, and honest government.
