- September 2, 2015

CLINTON LEVERAGED HER POSITION AS SECRETARY OF STATE TO KEEP CLOSE TIES WITH UNION ELITES IN THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS (AFT)

This Week's Clinton Email Dump Revealed That Leaders Of The American Federation Of Teachers Scheduled Meetings Directly With Clinton At Least Three Times

Clinton Has Considered Union Elites Among Her Longtime Allies

The American Federation Of Teachers Is Led By Randi Weingarten Who Is a "Longtime Ally" Of Clinton And "Backed Her" During Her Losing Effort To Barak Obama In 2008. "The endorsement from the American Federation of Teachers was not a surprise. The group is led by Randi Weingarten, a longtime ally of Mrs. Clinton, and it backed her in her losing primary battle against Barack Obama in 2008." (Maggie Haberman And Amy Chozick, "Hillary Clinton Picks Up Teachers' Union Endorsement," The New York Times, 7/20/15)

  • Weingarten Is Currently A Board Member Of Priorities USA, A Super-PAC That Supports Clinton's Campaign. "They noted that the poll being conducted by Hart Research, a firm led by Clinton allies, and Weingarten's board membership on Priorities USA, a super-PAC that supports Clinton's reelection campaign." (Sam Frizell, "Hillary Clinton Faces Unrest Among Organized Labor," Time, 7/16/15)

Weingarten's Former Assistant, Tina Flournoy, Is Considered One Of Hillary's Top "Influentials" By Politico. "A former teachers union official and campaign adviser to Clinton in 2008, she's now Bill Clinton's personal chief of staff and Hillary's main point of contact in his office. It remains to be seen if she'd join a second campaign." (Maggie Haberman, "Hillary Clinton's 50 Influential's," Politico, 1/5/14)

THIS DISCOVERY COMES JUST WEEKS AFTER SIGNIFCANT "BACKLASH" AND ACCUSATIONS OF A "RIGGED" PROCESS OVER THE AFT'S ENDORSEMENT OF CLINTON

The AFT's Endorsement Of Clinton Was Immediately Met With "Backlash Among Teachers" From Across The Country. "'I'm honored to have the support of AFT's members and leaders, and proud to stand with them to unleash the potential of every American,' Clinton said in response. 'Their voices and the voices of all workers are essential to this country.' But almost immediately, there was a backlash among teachers in far-flung locals across the states." (Sam Frizell, "Hillary Clinton Faces Unrest Among Organized Labor," Time, 7/16/15)

"Widely Read" Teachers' Blogs Published "Screeds" Against The Endorsement, Calling It "Rigged In Favor Of Clinton" By "Longtime Friend" AFT President Randi Weingarten. "Widely read teachers' blogs published screeds against the decision, calling it rigged in favor of Clinton, a longtime friend of AFT president Randi Weingarten. Though a June poll among AFT members showed a majority supporting Clinton over Sanders, the fervor of those unhappy with the endorsement ran high." (Sam Frizell, "Hillary Clinton Faces Unrest Among Organized Labor," Time, 7/16/15)

Among Some "Dyspeptic" Teacher Members, "Suspicion Lingered Over The Endorsement" Of Clinton, Given The Clinton-Affiliated Research Firm That Conducted The Poll Used By AFT President Weingarten In Justification For The Endorsement. "Among some of the dyspeptic teacher members, however, suspicion lingered over the endorsement, a reflection of some of the alienation among rank-and-file members. They noted that the poll being conducted by Hart Research, a firm led by Clinton allies, and Weingarten's board membership on Priorities USA, a super-PAC that supports Clinton's reelection campaign." (Sam Frizell, "Hillary Clinton Faces Unrest Among Organized Labor," Time, 7/16/15)

Close To 4,000 Teachers Have Signed A Petition "Calling On The AFT To Withdraw Its Endorsement" Of Clinton. "Online, close to 4,000 teachers have signed a Change.org petition calling on the AFT to withdraw its endorsement. On Facebook, a post about the union's endorsement has thousands of comments expressing dissent." (Annie Karni, "Unions Seethe Over Early Clinton Endorsement," Politico, 7/16/15)

  • Teachers Have Taken To Facebook To Share "Thousands Of Comments Expressing Dissent." " On Facebook, a post about the union's endorsement has thousands of comments expressing dissent." (Annie Karni, "Unions Seethe Over Early Clinton Endorsement," Politico, 7/16/15)

"Unhappy With The Status Quo," Union Members Across The Country Are "Restive" Over The "Possibility Of Their Affiliates Endorsing Clinton." "Unhappy with the status quo and uncertain about the future of labor as union membership shrinks, union members across the country are restive over the possibility of their affiliates endorsing Clinton." (Sam Frizell, "Hillary Clinton Faces Unrest Among Organized Labor," Time, 7/16/15)

Teachers "Questioned The Timing Amid Sen. Bernie Sanders' Surge In Popularity." " But on Saturday, when the AFT became the first international labor union to make an endorsement in the contest by announcing its support of Clinton, it drew sharp criticism from teachers as well as other labor leaders, who questioned the timing amid Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' surge in popularity." (Annie Karni, "Unions Seethe Over Early Clinton Endorsement," Politico, 7/16/15)

  • In The 2008 Campaign, The AFT Had Not Endorsed Clinton Until October 2007. "In 2007, the AFT didn't endorse Clinton until October." (Annie Karni, "Unions Seethe Over Early Clinton Endorsement,"Politico, 7/16/15)
