Abolish ICE? Peak Blue-Bubble Delusion

Fentanyl-linked deaths have plunged 22% in a single year thanks to President Trump’s border crackdown and ruthless campaign against the drug cartels. In 2025:

Synthetic opioid deaths fell from 48,913 to 38,084.
Total drug overdoses fell 14%.
Nationwide fentanyl seizures declined 45%.
There were fewer than 2,000 suspicious transaction reports linked to human smuggling compared to roughly 7,000 transactions per quarter under Biden.
There have been 15 straight months without a single catch and release at the border.
Nearly 1,000 miles of border wall is currently under construction.

While DHS continues to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, Democrats are still arguing over whether to abolish ICE, with some Democrats starting to worry that going “too far” on ICE could “kneecap” their electoral chances in battleground states.

“I don’t think that ‘abolish ICE’ gets you much more than a little bit of play in a primary and a round of applause in the blue bubble,” said one Democrat strategist. “Democratic candidates who want to win...would be wise to steer clear of a rally slogan.”

A new POLITICO Poll found that just 21% of undecided midterm voters say they support abolishing ICE, meaning it’s a losing issue in key races that will decide the majority.
