Dear Bob Casey: Don’t Put #Resistance First On Infrastructure

Christiana Purves - February 23, 2018

Last week, President Trump announced his long-term plan to improve the nation’s crumbling infrastructure with a focus on improving rural communities. Bob Casey has acknowledged the need for a bipartisan, long-term legislative solution on this important issue in the past, but has spent the majority of President Trump’s term obstructing any real bipartisan legislative fixes by playing partisan games.

Bob Casey has agreed that investments in transportation, water infrastructure, and broadband are important for rural Pennsylvanians. So, will Casey finally work with President Trump and Congress to deliver another win for the American people? Or will he continue partisan games at his constituents’ expense?

Red State Democrats Including Bob Casey Have Agreed That Broadband Access Is "Vital" And "Essential" To The Rural Communities

In December 2016, Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) Stated That Access To Broadband And Access To Telecommunication "Are Essential" To Every American And Claimed That "Pennsylvania's Rural Residents Need This Funding." "Casey wrote, 'Access to broadband and advanced telecommunication technology are essential to full participation in economic and social life for every American. Pennsylvania has demonstrated a long-term commitment to achieving the goal of universal service so a family farmer in Susquehanna County has the same opportunity to compete and succeed as a graphic designer in Philadelphia…..Pennsylvania's rural residents need this funding." (Press Release, "Casey: Invest Full Broadband Funds In Pennsylvania," Sen. Bob Casey , 12/22/16)

IN THEIR STATES, RED STATE DEMOCRATS HAVE VARIOUS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS THEY SUPPORT THAT ARE IN DIRE NEED OF FEDERAL FUNDING

In Pennsylvania, The Top Three Requested Statewide Infrastructure Projects Will Cost At Least $6.2 Billion

In Pennsylvania, Unions Asked For $3 Billion For The Mariner East 2 Pipeline. (Will Craft, "More Than 500 Infrastructure Projects Are Pitched To Trump, Who Will Favor Private Money And Speed," APM , 5/11/17)

  • In 2016, After The Completion Of The First Phase Of The Mariner East Pipeline, Senator Bob Casey Stated That The Creation Of The Pipeline Would "Help Create Jobs" And That He Would "Continue To Support Efforts To Strengthen Our Economy." "U.S. Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr., said: 'The completion of Mariner East 1 will help create jobs in manufacturing, engineering, and operations for many Pennsylvanians,' Senator Casey said. 'I will continue to support efforts to strengthen our economy while helping to make Delaware County an important energy hub in the United States.'" (Press Release, "Mariner East 1 Pipeline Links Marcellus Shale To East Coast With Introduction Of Ethane Shipments To Marcus Hook; Mariner East 2 Key To Further Economic Development In Pennsylvania," Business Wire , 3/10/16)

In Pennsylvania, Unions Asked $1.6 Billion For The Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline. (Will Craft, "More Than 500 Infrastructure Projects Are Pitched To Trump, Who Will Favor Private Money And Speed," APM , 5/11/17)

In Pennsylvania, Unions Asked For $1.6 Billion For The Penn East Pipeline. (Will Craft, "More Than 500 Infrastructure Projects Are Pitched To Trump, Who Will Favor Private Money And Speed," APM , 5/11/17)

Quality infrastructure is integral to Pennsylvania’s rural communities and economy. Tell Bob Casey to stand with President Trump and the GOP-led Congress to provide quality of life improvements for Pennsylvanians.
