Dem senator to DNC: Return Weinstein $$

Michael Ahrens - October 8, 2017

The DNC is taking even more heat this morning – this time from a Democratic senator – for their refusal to rid themselves of the $296,290 they took from Harvey Weinstein. The DNC, DSCC, and DCCC should listen to Sen. Chris Murphy and either return or donate all of their Weinstein donations to charity.

The Hill: DNC takes heat for giving Weinstein money to political groups. “But the DNC quickly came under fire for not giving the full amount it had received from Weinstein over the years, and for donating to political groups that seek to elect Democrats.”

Watch Here

JAKE TAPPER: “…But the Democratic National Committee, the DSCC (the Senate arm) and the DCCC (the congressional arm, the House arm) are not giving all the Weinstein money back. Do you think that all of that Weinstein money, we're talking here about more than $400,000, needs to be returned or donated to charity by all of the arms of the Democratic Party?”

SEN. CHRIS MURPHY: “Yeah, I think that probably makes sense. I mean this is a pretty bad guy who did some really awful things. And, you know, if people need for that money to be returned in order to make it clear that the entities that received them want nothing to do with him and his behavior, then it is probably a smart move. But this was a high profile individual, who did some truly awful things and people that took money from him should probably give it back.

Note: The chart below has been updated to reflect who has – and has not – returned all of the money they took from Harvey Weinstein.

Subject: DNC slammed over Harvey Weinstein response

As more Democrats give their full contributions from Harvey Weinstein to actual women’s charities, the DNC has found “a way to make a bad situation worse.”

The DNC took $296,290 from Weinstein while he was allegedly sexually assaulting women. They're keeping $266,290 and giving the rest to Democratic political organizations.

And even Dem operatives are jumping out of their skin over the DNC’s response…

Here are the Democrats and groups who have – and have not – returned the dirty contributions.
