Hey Senator Stabenow, Seeing the Light Yet?💡

Ellie Hockenbury - March 8, 2018

Thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, utility companies across Michigan are already passing along savings to Michiganders. Despite opposition from Senator Debbie Stabenow, historic tax relief has led to lower utility bills for her constituents.

Debbie Stabenow Slammed The Tax Bill And Called Corporate Tax Rate Reductions A "Huge" Giveaway For The One Percent

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) Called The Bill A "Huge" Tax Giveaway For The 1 Percent, Referencing This Corporate Tax Rate Reduction. "'I voted no because I could not support raising taxes on middle-class families, seniors, and farmers and leaving Michigan families without health insurance to pay for huge tax giveaways for the wealthiest one percent of Americans.'" (Press Release, "Stabenow Statement Following Senate Vote on Republican Tax Bill," Sen. Debbie Stabenow , 12/2/17)

But In Michigan, Utility Corporations Are Already Passing Along Savings To Millions Of Customers

DTE Energy Is Passing On Their Savings From The Tax Cuts And Jobs Act To Millions Of Customers Across The Country And In Michigan. "DTE Energy issued the following statement regarding the impacts of H.R.1, the Tax and Jobs Act. 'The recent passage of the Federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will offer benefits to energy customers across the country - including DTE's utility customers here in Michigan.'" (Press Release, "DTE Energy Passes Tax Reform Savings On To Customers," DTE Energy , 1/23/18)

  • DTE Energy Serves 3,500,000 Customers In Michigan. "'The reduction of the corporate tax rate will result in lower bills for DTE's 2.2 million electric and 1.3 million gas customers.'" (Press Release, "DTE Energy Passes Tax Reform Savings On To Customers," DTE Energy , 1/23/18)

Michigan-Based Consumers Energy Is Passing Along 100 Percent Of Their Savings From The Tax Cuts And Jobs Act To Customers. "'Today, Consumers Energy was pleased to submit a proposal to the Michigan Public Service Commission that would lower customer bills starting in 2018 by approximately $200 million, as a result of the recent federal tax reform changes. We are thrilled to be able to pass along 100 percent of the savings from tax reform to the people we are privileged to serve. This underscores our commitment to people, planet and prosperity for all of Michigan.'" (Press Release, "Consumers Energy Puts Customers First On Tax Reform," Consumers Energy , 1/19/18)

  • Consumers Energy Provides Energy To 6,700,000 Michigan Residents. "CMS Energy's primary business is Consumers Energy, providing natural gas and electricity to 6.7 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy is committed to serving our customers, and making Michigan a great place to live and work." ("Consumers Energy," CMS Energy, Accessed 3/5/18)

That’s not all. Yesterday, Costco announced a plan to invest their savings from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in its employees and lowering prices for its customers.

With all these savings, we have to wonder if Debbie Stabenow is seeing the light yet on historic tax relief? 💡
