How Many Times Will Those Involved In Obama Administration Scandals Refuse To Answer Questions?

RNC Communications - April 16, 2012

Today, Jeff Neely, the GSA official who organized the now infamous Las Vegas conference which resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars of wasted taxpayer money, pled the Fifth before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. This marks the fourth time individuals involved in scandal with connections to the Obama administration have pled the Fifth.

Jeff Neely Pled The Fifth, Refusing To Answer Any Questions Regarding The GSA Scandal

Neely, Who Pled The Fifth, Organized The Las Vegas Conference Which Cost Taxpayers $822,000. “The General Services Administration official tasked with organizing a now-infamous $822,000 Las Vegas conference plans to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights ahead of a scheduled Monday grilling on the Hill. On Thursday, House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) served a subpoena to require Jeff Neely to appear before the committee, according to Democratic committee documents obtained by POLITICO. Neely’s attorney on Friday informed the committee Neely will exercise his right against self-incrimination and requested not to attend the hearing.” (Burgess Everett, “GSA Official To Take The Fifth,” Politico, 4/13/12)

Solyndra Executives Pled The Fifth When Questioned About The Company’s Bankruptcy”

ABC News’ Jake Tapper: “Dear taxpayers: thanks for the $500 million, but we won't be answering any questions. Love, Solyndra executives.” (Jake Tapper, Twitter Feed, 9/23/11)

Former Federal Prosecutor Patrick Cunningham Announced He Would Plead The Fifth When Subpoenaed On The Fast and Furious Scandal:

This Was The First Time An Official Pled The Fifth On The Fast And Furious Scandal. “Now that he’s been subpoenaed and announced that he’ll plead the fifth amendment, this signals the first time an official in president Barack Obama’s and Attorney General Eric Holder’s Department of Justice has refused to testify over operation fast and furious on the basis that he or she may admit to committing a crime.” (Matthew Boyle, “DOJ Official Plans To Plead The Fifth, Refuse To Testify On Fast And Furious,” The Daily Caller, 1/20/12)

MF Global Treasurer Edith O’Brien Pled The Fifth When Questioned About $1.6 Billion Missing Customer Money:

Edith O’Brien Pled The Fifth Before The House Financial Services Committee And Was Dismissed From The Hearing. “A former MF Global executive has refused to answer lawmakers’ questions about $200 million that was transferred out of a customer account days before the firm collapsed, invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Edith O’Brien, a former assistant treasurer at MF Global, was subpoenaed to testify before the House Financial Services oversight subcommittee hearing about an email she sent, which appears to contradict testimony from Jon Corzine, the firm’s then-CEO.” (“Ex-MF Global Exec Edith O’Brien Pleads Fifth Amendment At Hearing,” The Huffington Post, 3/28/12)
