ICYMI: Conference Call w/ RNC Chairman Priebus & CO GOP Chairman Call on Obama’s Denver Visit

- September 27, 2011

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:

“Barack Obama’s visit to Denver today is on the heels of a massive West Coast fundraising swing and after the White House officially declared that the season of governing is over and that the campaign season is now in full swing.

“Team Obama is trying to fool the voters again trying to pretend that this visit is about creating jobs for Colorado but Obama’s supposed ‘major’ jobs speech today isn’t geared toward jobs for America or Colorado, it’s a taxpayer funded campaign event to really save his own job.

“In the last few days of campaigning, he’ll be touting a portion of liberal economist Mark Zandi’s quote, unquote ‘independent analysis’ of his ‘Stimulus 2.0’ plan that says it’s possible it would create jobs in 2012.

“However, the president is conveniently leaving out the part where Zandi says that the plan will actually be a drag on the economy after the campaign. As Zandi points out, Obama’s latest plan would be quote ‘a drag on the economy’ end quote beginning in 2013 and by 2015 the economy would look ‘as if there were no jobs package in the first place.’

“The reality is Obama’s Stimulus 2.0 isn’t a plan to put our country back to work; it’s a rehash of the same failed policies from the first stimulus that didn’t create jobs and saddled future generations with more debt."

CO GOP Chairman Ryan Call:

“We are not here today…because President Obama is concerned about jobs for Coloradans, but because the president really is campaigning in a crucial swing state because he is concerned about his own job.

“It is interesting that he chooses to come back to Denver, which is the same state in which he made all those lofty promises of hope and change during his 2008 nominating speech, but, now with sagging poll numbers, Obama is bringing a new divisive and angry tone, set more to prop his own reelection than designed to help turn around our economy, bring our country together or inspire the job creators in our state.

“The Denver Post just this morning was reporting that between July and August, Colorado lost 1800 jobs. Nationally, zero new jobs were created last month. This President’s record has just been abysmal on this…

“Doubling down on a second round of stimulus that will be a drag on our economy is not going to help improve the job creation in our state.

“In fact, under Barack Obama’s watch, unemployment in Colorado has increased [to] 8.5%.

“He promised last time that the first stimulus package would create 59,000 jobs, but instead we’ve lost 48,300 jobs since that stimulus package and almost 68,000 jobs in our state since he took office.

“Colorado has the 10th highest foreclosure rate in the nation.

“In 2010 alone, household incomes declined 2.5 percent, and frankly the number that is most troubling to me, is that last year the number of children living in poverty in Denver, in Denver alone, increased by 33%.

“By any economic measure, our state is worse off after 3 years of President Barack Obama and more spending and more taxes and more regulations on job creators is bound to make the situation worse."
