ICYMI: Highlights From Conference Call With RNC Chairman Priebus & MO GOP Chairman Cole

- October 4, 2011

 RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:

“Instead of addressing job creation for Missourians, President Obama seems to only be interested in using the Show Me state as his personal ATM for his campaign coffers and as a platform to practice yet another speech about his failed Stimulus 2.0 proposal and the reality is that this Stimulus 2.0 isn’t a plan to put our country back to work.

“It’s a rehash of the same old failed policies, the same old ideas that this president has jammed down the throats of Americans over a year and a half ago with his first stimulus plan

“2.4 million jobs have been lost since Obama took office. Unemployment has increased to 9.1 percent, which is a 20% increase since the stimulus passed. Zero jobs created last month and 32 straight months of unemployment [above 8%] and unemployment over 8% in Missouri.

“So my question to folks in Missouri is how can we trust Barack Obama with Stimulus 2.0, when clearly Stimulus 1.0 didn’t work and there doesn’t seem to be any accountability attached to it?

“The President admitted that the country is not better off today than it was when he took office. Yet, President Obama is making the same exact promises in Missouri today, and expecting a different result.

“I think that America—the American voters in this country know better, that this President, while he’s in love with the sound of his own voice, is not in love with following through on his own promises.”

MO GOP Chairman David Cole:

“In about four hours Barack Obama’s going to land in St. Louis for a brief fundraising swing to benefit his re-election campaign. As the Chairman said, this is a purely political visit. In fact, each of his events will take place behind closed doors but considering President Obama’s dismal economic record and his plummeting approval rating here in the Show Me State, it’s no wonder he’s staying behind closed doors.

“On this President’s watch, Missouri’s unemployment rate has increased by 10%, more than 266,000 Missourians cannot find work, home prices continue to fall faster in St. Louis and Kansas City than anywhere else in the nation.

“The national debt has skyrocketed by more than 4 trillion dollars and obviously things are not getting any better.

“The Kansas City area ranks 2nd to last in the entire nation in terms of job creation and that’s certainly something not to be proud of. But what has this President done about it? He ran through Congress a shortsighted stimulus bill that cost taxpayers 830 billion dollars. And even though Claire McCaskill, who serves as one of President Obama’s top lieutenants in the Senate, promised it would create millions of jobs, these jobs obviously have not materialized. Instead the stimulus has served as a giant blank check to the President’s biggest supporters.

“On a national level, Obama is engulfed in a scandal over more than a half a billion dollars in stimulus money that he gave to Solyndra and, now that this company has gone bankrupt, it has left the taxpayers holding the bag.

“Here in Missouri, the Carnahan family has been a beneficiary of Obama’s largess, receiving 107 million dollars in stimulus funds for Tom Carnahan’s wind farm and you guys certainly know where the President is holding his 25,000 dollar/plate fundraiser tonight, at Tom Carnahan’s house.”
