The Washington Post has reported that a group of House Democrats are preparing a bill that will disband ICE within a year. This news comes on the same day that a Politico/Morning Consult poll was released, showing that only 1 in 4 Americans support abolishing ICE.
These developments leave candidates like Sean Casten, Brendan Kelly, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan, and Lauren Underwood with quite the conundrum. They have what should be a clear choice between pandering and public safety. They can either satisfy the base and put the voters they’re running to represent at risk, or stand up for rule of law and our law enforcement by rejecting this dangerous proposal. Either way, Casten, Kelly, Londrigan, and Underwood owe voters in Illinois an answer.
“Sean Casten, Brendan Kelly, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan, and Lauren Underwood have already come out in favor of many out-of-touch issues this cycle, and supporting the abolish ICE movement would fit right in with their agendas. If they think they can get through November without giving voters an answer on where they stand on this critical public safety issue, they are absolutely wrong.”- RNC Spokesperson Ellie Hockenbury
