In Case You Missed It: Highlights From Conference Call With Gov. Nikki Haley & Douglas Holtz-Eakin

- June 16, 2011

Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) On The NLRB’s Lawsuit Against Boeing:

“[E]very state is trying to vie for as many jobs as possible and it is absolutely amazing when a governor tries to bring jobs to her state and she has a president that she’s having to fight every step of the way to do it …

“When a president can come in and allow a board to sue a company for creating jobs, all he is doing is making best friends with every country that wants to take these jobs from us because that’s the first place they’ll go …

“[T]his really doesn’t require a PHD. This is just common sense and the President needs to see that for what it is …

“I will tell you this, if he continues fighting the creation of jobs the way he’s doing now … his chances are done. The people of this state don’t want to have a President that fights against their governors. The people of this state don’t want a President that’s going to go in the opposite direction of what the people think. And I think he is trying very hard to show his power, but in the process of doing that that he’s killing jobs, he’s killing the economy and the people are very smart and they see that.”

AAF President & Fmr. CBO Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin On The NLRB’s Lawsuit Against Boeing:

“[C]ertainly I’m not a labor lawyer but if you look at the facts on the ground and the NLRB’s case against Boeing, it doesn’t make any sense. And It does look like an example of political support for unions trumping good economic policy. What disappoints me is that two years into the economic recovery the economy that Barack Obama’s administration has now built is one in which those kind of decisions appear to be quite common …

“The most pressing threat facing the U.S is an enormous federal debt explosion … The President has put out three straight budgets in which he has done nothing about this …. So it certainly looks as if this is an instance where his political objectives are much more important than the legacy we leave to our children.”
