There was no stage, podium, or fanfare. Just a straight answer to a central question: “Why am I running?”
“I do not seek the presidency because I want to be something. I seek it because I want to DO something — for America.”
Formally launching his candidacy for the Republican nomination for President, former governor of Virginia Jim Gilmore addressed voters in an online video detailing his assessment of today’s challenges and opportunities.
As the Obama-Clinton status quo of failed leadership threatens to put America on a path of decline, Gilmore called for a renewed commitment to a dynamic economy and a robust national defense:
“Simply put, I believe restoring our national defense, cutting taxes and limiting the power of the government will get our nation back on track and begin the process of protecting the future of all Americans,” said Gilmore.
Gilmore spoke of his experience as an intelligence agent during the Cold War, his tax-cutting record as Governor of Virginia, and his work fighting terrorism. Promising to apply this experience to “make a difference in the direction of our nation,” Gilmore called on Americans to have confidence in themselves:
- If we trust in ourselves, our capacity for self-government, our ability to believe in ourselves, there is no hurdle we can’t overcome.
