Earlier This Week, The White House Also Broke With The Extreme Clinton-DNC Publicly Funded Abortion Platform. QUESTION: "The democratic platform calls for getting rid of, for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. The President actually, ahead of passing the ACA signed an executive order applying the Hyde Amendment to the ACA. Josh has a few times used the Hyde amendment as one more of the reasons that there is no reason to defund Planned Parenthood. Is this something the President supports? The repeal of the Hyde Amendment?" WHITE HOUSE DEPUTY PRESS SECRETARY ERIC SCHULTZ: "Fred, I don't believe we have changed our position on the Hyde Amendment, but if we do you'll be the first to know." QUESTION: "So you're not necessarily on board with that particular issue?' SCHULTZ: "Like you said, we have a longstanding view on this and I don't have any changes to our position to announce today." (White House Press Briefing, Washington, DC, 7/26/16)

The 2016 Democrat Platform And Clinton Want To Repeal The Hyde Amendment - A Move That Even The 2012 Platform Did Not Endorse

Clinton Supports Repealing The Hyde Amendment. "Hillary Clinton has been vocal about the need to repeal Hyde, saying earlier this month while accepting the endorsement of Planned Parenthood that the amendment undercut a fundamental legal right for low-income women." (Alex Seitz-Wald, "Bernie Sanders Commits To Repealing Hyde Amendment," MSNBC, 1/22/16)

Democrats Want To Expand Abortion By Repealing The Hyde Amendment And Opposing Attempts To Defund Planned Parenthood. "We will continue to stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood health centers, which provide critical health services to millions of people. We will continue to oppose-and seek to overturn-federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman's access to abortion, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment." (2016 Democratic Platform, 7/1/16)

  • The Hyde Amendment Prohibits Federal Funding Of Abortions. "Medicaid coverage is provided by both federal and state funds, and some states - 17 to be exact - use their own funds to subsidize abortion coverage beyond what federal laws allow, to other cases deemed "medically necessary." The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funding of abortions through Medicaid except in cases of rape, incest or endangerment of the life of the mother." (Lori Robertson, "The Abortion Issue," Factcheck.org, 4/1/10)

NOTE: The 2012 Democrat Platform Made No Mention Of The Hyde Amendment Or Its Repeal. (2012 Democratic Platform, UCSB Website, Accessed 7/13/16)
