Kaine Misstates Hillary Clinton’s Ability To Stand Up To Russia

- October 4, 2016

Tonight, Kaine Claimed That Clinton Has The Ability To Stand Up To Russia. KAINE: “Hillary has the ability to stand up to Russia the way that this ticket does not.”   (Sen. Tim Kaine, Vice Presidential Debate, Longwood University, Farmville, VA, 10/4/16)

But Clinton’s Failed Russia Reset Has Resulted In A More Aggressive Russia

Clinton On The Russia Reset, June 2014: “I Thought It Was A Brilliant Stroke, Which In Retrospect Appears Even More So, Because Look At What We Accomplished.” BBC HOST: “You famously pressed the reset button. Are you embarrassed by that now, that gesture?” CLINTON: “No I thought it was a brilliant stroke, which in retrospect appears even more so, because look at what we accomplished.” (Interview With BBC, 6/13/14)

Clinton’s Russia Reset Policy “Now Lies In Tatters.” “But most experts agree that the policy now lies in tatters, with Russian President Vladimir Putin openly fueling anti-American sentiment at home and pursuing confrontational policies abroad, such as the invasion of Ukraine and the annexation of its Crimea region.” (Olivier Knox, “Russia ‘Reset’ Architect To Next President: Don’t Try That Again,” Yahoo, 5/27/15)

The Associated Press Headline: “Ash Carter: Russia Sowing Seeds Of Global Instability.” (“Ash Carter: Russia Sowing Seeds Of Global Instability,” The Associated Press, 9/7/16)

Secretary Carter Claimed Russia’s Recent Aggression “Demonstrated That Russia Has Clear Ambition To Erode The Principled International Order.” “‘Despite the progress that we made together in the aftermath of the Cold War, Russia's actions in recent years — with its violations of Ukrainian and Georgian territorial integrity, its unprofessional behavior in the air, in space, and in cyberspace, as well as its nuclear saber rattling - all have demonstrated that Russia has clear ambition to erode the principled international order,’ Carter said.” (“Ash Carter: Russia Sowing Seeds Of Global Instability,” The Associated Press, 9/7/16)

  • “Mr. Carter Painted A Picture Of A Russia That Is Eroding The International Order, Sowing Instability, Interfering With Its Neighbors And Conducting Itself Unprofessionally In The Air, In Space And In Cyber Space, All As Part Of A Single-Minded Pursuit Of Global Power.” (Paul Sonne, “Ash Carter Warns Russia Against Interfering In ‘Democratic Process,’” The Wall Street Journal, 9/7/16)

Previously Defense Secretary Carter Made The Case That “Russia’s Intervention Beyond Its Borders Pose A Bigger Danger To U.S. Security… Than Does The Immediate Threat From The Islamic State.” “On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter previewed the Pentagon budget proposal for fiscal 2017, making a case for why China’s rapid military buildup and Russia’s intervention beyond its borders pose a bigger danger to U.S. security, and merit larger investments, than does the immediate threat from the Islamic State.” (Missy Ryan, “Pentagon Unveils Budget Priority For Next Year: Countering Russia And China,” The Washington Post, 2/2/16)
