Meet Governor Mike Pence: Trump's Rock Solid VP Pick

Team GOP - July 15, 2016

The Republican Party took one big step toward the White House as Donald Trump announced his choice for Vice President: Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

The news was met with overwhelming applause from conservatives across the country who recognize the strength, experience, and principled leadership Pence brings to the ticket.

Those who know him well and have worked closely with him over the years heaped praise on their friend, calling him "steady and secure," a "natural leader," and a "talented messenger" for conservative ideas.

Here are just a few reasons why people are raving about Trump's new running mate:

1. He has Experience Putting Principles Into Practice and Fighting Waste in Washington

Governor Pence has been a consistent fighter for sound fiscal policies and conservative reforms. During his 12 years representing eastern Indiana in the House of Representatives, he led oppostion to out of control spending proposals by both Republicans and Democrats.

As chairman of the Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives, he was a leader in the fight to do away with earmarks.

As Indiana Governor he has maintained a balanced budget, reduced the burden on small businesses, and signed the largest tax cut in state history into law.

Overall, Pence has reduced the tax burden on Indiana job creators by over $300 million since 2013. These conservative policies have brought forth a wave of economic growth and job creation, showing clearly that strong Republican leadership works.

2.  His Record as a Job-Creating Governor Makes the Trump-Pence Ticket America's Turnaround Team

When Pence was inaugurated in 2013, Indiana's unemloyment rate was at 8.4 percent. Under his leadership, unemployment has dropped to under 5 percent and Indiana has seen the longest period of uninterrupted job growth in the state's history.

That translates to over 150,000 private sector jobs and 34,000 fewer unemployed workers.

It's no accident businesses are flocking to Indiana, investing in the state's economy, and creating good-paying middle-class jobs. Because of Governor Pence's conservative economic policies, the state has been named the fifth best overall state in the country for job growth. Businesses like Subaru, Salesforce, and Amazon recognize the thriving culture of opportunity cultivated by Governor Pence.

3. He is Widely Respected as a Man of Character and Faith

Governor Mike Pence is a lifelong Hoosier with legal, small business, and public policy experience. But more than that he is a friend to many, a father of three, and devoted husband to his wife of 31 years, Karen.

Faith comes first for Pence and his values are what drive him to public service. He has been a strong advocate for religious freedom and has fought against activist judges who have sought to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance.

During his time in Congress, Pence served in leadership roles as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee and Chairman of the House Republican Conference. Universally admired for his steady leadership, he was most respected by his colleagues for his integrity and honesty.

4. He Consistently Offers Innovative Solutions to Tough Problems

Mike Pence has a wealth of experience bringing positive change and championing innovative conservative reforms.

Under his leadership, Indiana has become a true innovator in delivering world class healthcare to its citizens with state-based solutions to state-based issues.

As Governor, he led the charge to combat the scourge of drug addtion in Indiana by creating a task force on drug enforcemnt, treatment and prevention, providing $30 million over two years to focus on extending treatment and prevention options without raising taxes.

Indiana has been a leader in finding solutions for our veterans as well. Indiana was among the first states to allow our National Guard to carry firearms at all recruiting stations. Now, those who defend our freedom have the ability to defend themselves.

Governor Pence has also fought hard to create good jobs for our veterans, bringing Indiana from 31st in the nation for veteran's unemployment to the second lowest veteran's unemployment in the nation.

On education, Pence has fought to keep the federal government out of state education decisions and has expanded school choice to more than 32,000 low and middle-income Hoosier students.

Under his watch, Indiana’s test scores and graduation rates are the seventh highest in the nation, and children in the state outpace national averages at every level.

5. He is the Perfect Choice to Unify the Republican Party and Defeat Hillary Clinton

Mr. Trump and Governor Pence’s winning ideas are in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton, whose plans to help American families are merely more of the failed Obama policies which have sent debt skyrocketing and paychecks slumping.

The Trump-Pence ticket’s vision for prosperity and security makes it clear that the Republican Party is the only party prepared to lead an American turnaround.
