Who is the most vulnerable Democrat at risk of losing in 2018?

Michael Joyce - January 5, 2018

Good Afternoon-

Why is Mexico Joe Donnelly going to lose in 2018? Here’s what opinion contributor for The Hill, Mark Plotkin, has to say. The highlights:

  • On Indiana being Trump country:

“First, an observation about the Hoosier state which I can’t resist repeating: Hoosiers are “Texans with small hats.” In line with that description, Donald Trump won the state by 19 points. The margin was 524,160 votes.”

  • On Donnelly’s fluke win in 2012:

“Joe Donnelly, six years ago, was the luckiest man alive. He had the very good fortune to face a Republican opponent who defeated himself.”

  • On Donnelly’s erroneous claims of bipartisanship:

“Donnelly has gone out of his way to be viewed as an independent by saying things like this: ’I’m not going there as one party’s senator or the other party’s senator.’”[…] “But these stands might not save him in a state that is, by far, the most reliably Republican state in the rust-belt Midwest.”

  • The money line:

“Of all the Democratic incumbents, Donnelly will be running scared. Very scared.”

It’s well worth a read. If folks think a blue wave is coming in 2018, there’s a dangerous undertow on the way in Indiana.

“The writing is on the wall for Senator Joe Donnelly in 2018; Hoosiers are fired up to replace him with someone who votes their values instead of the values of Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren. From Mexico Joe’s outsourcing hypocrisy to his no votes on tax reform and repealing Obamacare, his message or lack thereof won’t play very well in a state President Trump carried by 19 points in 2016.” – RNC Spokesperson Michael Joyce
