New Poll Reinforces Clinton's General Election Problem

By now you’ve seen the latest swing state poll from Quinnipiac with all sorts of terrible numbers for Hillary Clinton – under water on favorability, honesty, and empathy as well as losing to multiple GOP candidates thanks to her growing email scandal. But these polls also round out a more troubling portrait on the state of play for Clinton.

Recent surveys now show her trailing multiple GOP candidates in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia – all states that President Obama won in 2012 and total a combined 111 electoral votes. Republicans need a net pickup of 64 electoral votes from 2012 to win in 2016, which means there are multiple pathways to 270. And it’s this emerging dynamic that’s led Democrats to openly fret about Clinton’s chances in a general election.
