As We Await Obama’s New Jobs Plan, It’s Worth Looking
Back At The Over 15 Million Jobs That The President
Predicted His Policies Would Create

IF OBAMA’S POLICIES LIVED UP TO HIS PROMISES, WE WOULD HAVE CREATED OVER 15 MILLION JOBS

3,500,000 Jobs – Saved Or Created By Stimulus: In February 2009, Obama Predicted That The Stimulus Would Save Or Create 3.5 Million Jobs. “And tonight, I am grateful that this Congress delivered, and pleased to say that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is now law. Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs.  More than 90% of these jobs will be in the private sector – jobs rebuilding our roads and bridges; constructing wind turbines and solar panels; laying broadband and expanding mass transit.” (President Barack Obama, Address To Joint Session Of Congress, Washington, DC, 2/24/09)

  • Biden Predicted In “18 Months” Stimulus Will “Create 3.5 Million Jobs … Literally Drop-Kicks Us Out Of This Recession.” “This is a monumental project, but I think it's doable. But I just think we got to stay on top (inaudible) and we got to stay on top of that on a weekly basis. Because this is about getting this out and spent in 18 months to create 3.5 million jobs and do -- to set -- tee this up so the rest of the good work that's being done here literally drop-kicks us out of this recession and we begin to grow again and begin to employ people again.” (Vice President Biden, Remarks At Recovery Plan Implementation Meeting, Washington D.C., 2/25/09)
  • 2,500,000 Jobs – Stimulus By January 2011: Obama Predicted That His Economic Recovery Plan Would Create 2.5 Million Jobs By January 2011. “I have already directed my economic team to come up with an Economic Recovery Plan that will mean 2.5 million more jobs by January of 2011 – a plan big enough to meet the challenges we face that I intend to sign soon after taking office.” (President Barack Obama, The President-Elect’s Radio Address, 11/22/08)

5,000,000 Jobs – Green Energy Economy: President-Elect Obama Predicted That The Green Energy Economy Would Create Five Million Jobs. “It means investing $150 billion to build an American green energy economy that will create five million new jobs, while freeing our nation from the tyranny of foreign oil, and saving our planet for our children.” (President-Elect Barack Obama, The President-Elect’s Radio Address, 11/15/08)

  • President Obama Said Clean Energy Would Create “Hundreds Of Thousands Of Jobs” And “Millions More After That.” “After decades of dragging our feet, this plan will finally spark the creation of a clean energy industry that will create hundreds of thousands of jobs over the next few years--manufacturing wind turbines and solar cells, for example--millions more after that.” (President-Elect Barack Obama, Remarks at the Department of Energy, 2/5/09)

4,000,000 Jobs – ObamaCare: Nancy Pelosi Said That ObamaCare Would Create 4 Million Jobs And 400,000 Almost Immediately. PELOSI: “It's about jobs. In it's life, it will create 4 million jobs – 400,000 jobs almost immediately." (Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Remarks At Bipartisan Meeting On Healthcare Reform, Washington, D.C., 2/25/10)

2,000,000 Jobs – Infrastructure Spending: President-Elect Obama Predicted That Rebuilding Roads And Bridges Would Create Two Million Jobs. “That starts with the kinds of long-term investments that we've neglected for too long. That means putting two million Americans to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools.” (President-Elect Barack Obama, The President-Elect’s Radio Address, 11/15/08)

600,000 Jobs – Unemployment Benefits: The Obama Administration Predicted That Extending Unemployment Benefits Through The End Of 2011 Would Create 600, 000 Jobs In 2011 Alone. “The framework agreement extended unemployment benefits at their current level for 13 months, through the end of 2011.  … According to the Council of Economic Advisers, passing this provision will create 600,000 jobs in 2011 alone.” (Press Release, “Framework Agreement On Middle Class Tax Cuts And Unemployment Insurance,” WhiteHouse.gov, 12/7/10)
