After the day he’s had, Andrew Cuomo could definitely use a Cosmo…
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has his eyes fixed on a 2020 presidential bid – but now “Miranda Hobbes” and her campaign against #CUOMOSMTA are standing in his way. As The New York Times’ Shane Goldmacher writes, Cynthia Nixon’s announcement that she’s running for governor “[set] off what promises to be a tumultuous six months” ahead of the New York Democratic primary.
It hasn’t gotten much attention outside of New York, but one of Cuomo’s closest aides was convicted last week of “soliciting and accepting more than $300,000 in bribes.” Cuomo tried to claim his name “was never mentioned” during the trial, but The Times reports today that that’s 100% false:
The New York Times: Cuomo Says His Name Was ‘Never Mentioned.’ It Was. 136 Times. Still, the efforts to distance himself from the Percoco verdict are understandable, considering the often unflattering portrait of his administration’s inner workings — including written disparagement of staff, angry outbursts by Mr. Cuomo, and Mafia-like codes and sophomoric nicknames — revealed during the trial.
Cuomo’s reportedly panicking about Nixon, and progressive activists are chomping at the bit to take him out. As Carrie Bradshaw would say: I can’t help but wonder… Will this be a top Democratic primary to watch in 2018?
