Remember When Obama Used To Talk Differently About The Economy…

RNC Communications - September 9, 2011

The Obama Economy According To Obama…

May 19, 2011: President Says “The Economy Is Now Recovered.” PRESIDENT OBAMA: “And as Debbie mentioned, because of the actions we took, the economy is now recovered; it’s growing again.” (President Obama, “Remarks By The President At A DNC Event,” Washington D.C., 5/19/11)

August 17, 2011: President Obama Says “The Economy Has Gotten Better” With “Over 2 Million Private Sector Jobs Created.” PRESIDENT OBAMA: “Now, the fact of the matter is, is the economy has gotten better than it was when I first took office.  I mean, we’ve seen over the last 17 months 2 million -- over 2 million private sector jobs created.” (President Obama, Remarks At A Town Hall Meeting, Atkinson, IL, 8/17/11)

September 9, 2011: President Obama Says The Economy Has “Stalled.” PRESIDENT OBAMA: “It will jump start an economy that has stalled.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At University Of Richmond, Richmond, VA, 9/9/11)

Bottom Line: Obama Owns What Even He Has To Describe As A “Stalled” Economy…

Back In 2009 Obama Said He Was Responsible For The Economy “Give It To Me.” OBAMA:“My administration has a job to do as well. That job is to get this economy back on its feet. That's my job, and it's a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, ‘Well this is Obama's economy.’ That's fine. Give it to me. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe. So, I welcome the job. I want the responsibility." (President Barack Obama, Remarks At Macomb Community College, Warren, MI, 7/14/09)

  • “Mr. Obama Has Been The Least Obstructed President Since LBJ In 1965 Or FDR In 1933, Which Is How We Got Here.” “The larger political subtext of Mr. Obama's speech is that if Congress doesn't pass his plan, he'll then campaign against Republicans as obstructionist. Thus his speech mantra that Congress should ‘pass it right away.’ This ignores that Mr. Obama has been the least obstructed President since LBJ in 1965 or FDR in 1933, which is how we got here.” (Editorial, “The Latest Jobs Plan,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/11)
  • Obama Got Almost Everything Thing He Wanted Out Of The Democrat-Controlled Congress.  “He passed $830 billion in stimulus, $3 billion for cash for clunkers, $30 billion in small business loans, $30 billion for mortgage modification, the GM-Chrysler bailouts, ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, credit card price controls, Build America Bonds, jobless benefits for a record 99 weeks, and more. The only priorities that a Democratic Congress blocked were cap-and-tax and union card check, and both of those would have further damaged growth and jobs. Even last December, after Republicans had retaken the House, Mr. Obama won his one-year payroll tax cut, more jobless benefits and most of what he wanted.” (Editorial, “The Latest Jobs Plan,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/9/11)
  • Percentage Of Obama Presidency Where Democrats Controlled All Of Congress: 75.6%. (112th Congress Convened 1/3/11, Democrats Lose Control Of House; Public Law 111-289, Joint Resolution Appointing The Day For The Convening Of The First Session Of The One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Date Approved 11/30/10; President Obama Inaugurated 1/20/09; U.S. Constitution, 20th Amendment, Ratified 1/23/33)
  • Percentage Of Obama Presidency Where Democrats Controlled The Senate: 100%. (112th Congress Convened 1/3/11, Democrats Retain Control Of Senate; Public Law 111-289, Joint Resolution Appointing The Day For The Convening Of The First Session Of The One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Date Approved 11/30/10; President Obama Inaugurated 1/20/09; U.S. Constitution, 20th Amendment, Ratified 1/23/33)
