RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Statement on President Obama’s Criticism of the House Republican Budget

- April 3, 2012

WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement in regards to President Obama's recent criticism of the House Republicans' budget plan:

"President Obama should be ashamed of himself for trying to score cheap political points by attacking Republicans' plans to reduce the deficit and save future generations from a debt crisis of his own creation," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

"The president's speech today at the AP Annual Luncheon exhibited the worst of desperate, deceptive politics. It requires a special kind of hypocrisy for Obama to attack Republicans for their responsible Path to Prosperity budget one week after his own tax-and-spend budget was defeated 0-414 in the House of Representatives. While cynically attacking a Republican House who actually passed a responsible budget, he has yet to admonish his Democrat-controlled Senate that has failed to pass any budget in three years.

"He broke his promise to voters to cut the deficit in half and instead racked up more debt than any president in history. He would rather bankrupt America and mortgage our children's future than make tough decisions. Yet, he still has the audacity to bash others who are trying to clean up after his reckless spending. America did not need another lecture from Professor Obama today. We need leadership from President Obama.

"Clearly, Obama misled the American people in 2008 when he promised to be a post-partisan leader of 'hope and change.' All along he's been a cold, calculating, big-spending politician. In the final year of his term, with no record to run on, he has resorted to the very divisive, disingenuous rhetoric he once decried. We cannot afford four more years of this failed leader. We need a new president in the White House."
