RNC Statement on House Republican Budget

RNC Communications - April 1, 2014

WASHINGTON – RNC Chairman Reince Priebus today released the following statement on the budget introduced today by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan:

“The American people deserve a government that spends our money fairly and responsibly. Under President Obama and the Democrats, we’ve had the opposite: a government that squanders our money unfairly and irresponsibly. Americans are calling for an end to the reckless spending, and Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget answers that call. It treats working families fairly and will strengthen our economy.

“Predictably, Democrats in Congress are already at work distorting this budget. Because they have failed to do their jobs and failed to offer solutions, all they can do is deploy their tired old scare tactics. But the truth is, it’s Democrats up for reelection this year who should be scared. Americans oppose ObamaCare and support deficit reduction; in other words, Americans side with Republicans on these defining issues.

“This budget strengthens the safety net. It ensures our government lives within it means. It spends taxpayers’ money responsibly. It doesn’t pass on more debt to our children and grandchildren. Only a Democrat who has spent too much time in D.C. could think less debt, a stronger safety net, and greater responsibility are bad things. They really have lost touch with the rest of America.

“In a frantic response to this budget, the White House said the president and his party, ‘have a plan to grow our economy from the middle out.’ Really? Because the only thing their polices have managed to grow is the national debt.

“This budget helps to show the choice Americans will face in November. Republicans will continue to be the party of solutions. Democrats are stuck being the party of scare tactics.”
