WASHINGTON—Today, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement regarding President Obama’s budget:
“After months of delay, President Obama proposed a budget that shows he’s out of new ideas. This is the same, warmed-over proposal that doesn’t address the nation’s pressing fiscal challenges--challenges that have gotten worse during his time in office. As we’ve seen before, this budget amounts to spending more money we don’t have and higher taxes and more debt to pay for the spending. And unlike the budget passed by House Republicans, this budget never balances--ever.
“Worse, the president is putting tax hikes before meaningful reform. We have to strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for the most vulnerable among us and for the next generation. Sadly, the president has made clear that he’s holding those reforms—and areas where we could find agreement—hostage for higher taxes. His priorities are backward: In his budget, new spending programs come before protecting the poor and elderly and before creating jobs.”
