Selling The ObamaCare Lie

How The Mother Of ObamaCare Hatched A Lie In Iowa To Mislead The American People About Their Health Care Plans

Eight Years Ago Today, Clinton Introduced Her "American Health Choices" Plan, Much Of Which Would Be Included In ObamaCare. "She was to make good on that pledge Monday, unveiling a sweeping proposal requiring everyone to carry health insurance and offering federal subsidies to help reduce the cost of coverage. With a price tag of about $110 billion per year, Clinton's 'American Health Choices Plan' represents her first major effort to achieve universal health coverage since 1994, when the plan she authored during her husband's first term collapsed." ("Clinton To Offer Sweeping Health Care Plan," The Associated Press, 9/17/07)

Then-Sen. Barack Obama Said "I Commend Senator Clinton" For Creating A Health Care Plan "Similar To The One I Put Forth." "I commend Senator Clinton for her health care proposal. It's similar to the one I put forth last spring, though my universal health care plan would go further in reducing the punishing cost of health care than any other proposal that's been offered in this campaign. But the real key to passing any health care reform is the ability to bring people together in an open, transparent process that builds a broad consensus for change." (Sen. Barack Obama, Statement On Sen. Hillary Clinton's Healthcare Proposal, 9/17/07)

CLINTON REPEATEDLY PROMISED IN HER REMARKS THAT AMERICANS COULD KEEP THEIR HEALTH PLAN AND THEIR DOCTORS

Clinton: "You Can Keep The Doctors You Know And Trust. You Keep The Insurance You Have If You Like It." CLINTON: "Third, I learned how important it is to present a plan that is clear and easy to understand. Today's plan is simpler, yet still bold. Now I know my Republican opponents will try to equate health care for all Americans with government run health care. Well don't let them fool us again. This is not government run. There will be no new bureaucracy. You can keep the doctors you know and trust. You keep the insurance you have if you like it. But this plan expands personal choice and increases competition to keep costs down." (Hillary Clinton, Remarks On American Health Choices Plan, Des Moines, IA, 9/17/07)

Clinton: Nothing Changes For Those Who Like Their Insurance, Doctor, Or Hospital. "Now here's how this plan would work. If you have private insurance you like, nothing changes -- you can keep that insurance. If you like the doctor you have, you can keep seeing that doctor. If you like the hospital where you receive care, you can keep receiving care at that hospital." (Hillary Clinton, Remarks On American Health Choices Plan, Des Moines, IA, 9/17/07)

Obama Made The Same Broken Promise To The American People To Sell ObamaCare

Obama: "If You Like Your Plan, You Can Keep Your Plan. If You Like Your Doctor, You Can Keep Your Doctor." OBAMA: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. I can tell you, as the father of two young girls, I would not want any plan that interferes with the relationship between a family and their doctor." (President Barack Obama, Remarks On Health Care Reform, Washington, D.C., 3/3/10)

CNN's Jake Tapper On Obama's Keep Your Plan Promise: "The Number One Lie Of The Year." CNN's JAKE TAPPER: "The lie of the year. Control room, can we get a drumroll? So here it is, by popular demand, the number one lie of the year, based on something the President first said in 2009, and updated in 2013. OBAMA: If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan." (CNN's " The Lead With Jake Tapper," 12/12/13)

ObamaCare Architect Jonathan Gruber Admitted That Obama's Promise That Americans Could Keep Their Health Plan Was False. REP. TIM WALBERG (R-MI): "Mr. Gruber, the Obama administration promised the American people 37 times that if you like your plan you can keep your plan. When you were working on the law did you believe, Mr. Gruber, did you believe that no one would lose a plan they liked due to ObamaCare?" GRUBER: "I believed that the law would not affect the vast majority of Americans." WALBERG: "The vast majority. But did you believe that no one, as the president said, would lose a plan they liked?" GRUBER: "As I said I believed it would not affect a vast majority of Americans. But, it is true that some people might have to upgrade their plans because their plans were not comprehensive as defined under the law." HILLARY'S PLAN = OBAMACARE

Immediately Following The Unveiling Of Her Health Plan, Obama Issued A Statement That Said Both Of Their Health Reform Proposals Were "Similar." OBAMA: "I commend Senator Clinton for her health care proposal. It's similar to the one I put forth last spring, though my universal health care plan would go further in reducing the punishing cost of health care than any other proposal that's been offered in this campaign." ( Statement On Health Care, Barack Obama, 9/17/07)

  • Several Months Later, Then-Candidate Obama Said His Health Care Plan Was "About 95 Percent" Similar To Clinton's Plan. OBAMA: "Let's take health care. About 95 percent of our plans are similar." (Barack Obama, Democratic Presidential Debate, Los Angeles, CA, 1/31/08)

Clinton's Plan Had The Same ObamaCare Provisions That "Resulted In Policy Cancellations For Hundreds Of Thousands Of People Nationwide." "Her proposed reforms would have provided the same sort of quality assurances enacted by Obamacare, which raised basic minimum insurance requirements - and resulted in policy cancellations for hundreds of thousands of people nationwide." (Rebecca Berg, "Hillary Clinton In 2007: 'If You Have A Plan You Like, You Keep It,'" The Washington Examiner , 11/14/13)

OBAMACARE ARCHITECT JONATHAN GRUBER CONFIRMED SELLING OBAMACARE RELIED ON MISLEADING VOTERS

In A Video, Gruber Said That A "'Lack Of Transparency' And The 'Stupidity Of The American Voter' Helped Congress Approve ObamaCare. "An architect of the federal health care law said last year that a 'lack of transparency' and the 'stupidity of the American voter' helped Congress approve ObamaCare. In a clip unearthed Sunday, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Jonathan Gruber appears on a panel and discusses how the reform earned enough votes to pass. He suggested that many lawmakers and voters didn't know what was in the law or how its financing worked, and that this helped it win approval." (Elise Viebeck, "ObamaCare Architect: 'Stupidity' Of Voters Helped Bill Pass," The Hill, 11/10/14)

Gruber: "Lack Of Transparency Is A Huge Political Advantage. And Basically, Call It The Stupidity Of The American Voter Or Whatever, But Basically That Was Really, Really Critical For The Thing To Pass." "'Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,' Gruber said. 'And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.'" (Elise Viebeck, "ObamaCare Architect: 'Stupidity' Of Voters Helped Bill Pass," The Hill, 11/10/14)

Another Video Caught Gruber Once Again Mocking American Voters, Saying That ObamaCare Was "Very Clever, You Know, Basic Exploitation Of The Lack Of Economic Understanding Of The American Voter." "'We just tax the insurance companies, they pass on higher prices that offsets the tax break we get, it ends up being the same thing. It's a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter,' Gruber said in remarks from 2012 that aired Wednesday evening on 'On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.'" (Lucy McCalmont, "White House Says Gruber's Wrong, Attacks GOP," Politico, 11/13/14)

ObamaCare Architect Jonathan Gruber In 2008: "I Love The Hillary Clinton Plan, … The Hillary Clinton Plan Was Obama's Plan Plus A Mandate." JONATHAN GRUBER: "I love the Hillary Clinton plan, what can I say. The Hillary Clinton plan was the Massachusetts plan. The Hillary Clinton plan was Obama's plan plus a mandate and I think it was a better plan. I think that a mandate is really a central part of doing fundamental healthcare reform. I was surprised politically she did that. I think Obama was a lot smarter politically to not have a mandate at least in his proposal for the election. But I do hope - I think these numbers from Massachusetts, it's gaining a lot of traction and I know the folks in the Senate who are working this are taking a mandate very seriously and I hope that'll be part of a national debate." (Jonathan Gruber, Remarks At MIT's CIS Starr Forum, Cambridge, MA, 10/22/08)

AND THE OBAMA-CLINTON LIE OF THE YEAR LED TO MILLIONS LOSING THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE

According To The Associated Press , At Least 4.7 Million Americans Received Notices That Their Current Health Plans Were Cancelled In 2013. "Millions of Americans who buy their own health insurance were informed this fall that their policies would no longer be offered starting in 2014 because they do not meet the higher standards of the federal Affordable Care Act. The actual number of people receiving the notices is unclear, in part because officials in nearly 20 states say they do not have the information or are not tracking it. … This chart shows that at least 4.7 million Americans received the cancellation notices. It also provides details about what decision has been made in each state since Obama's announcement (some states had previously decided to allow insurers to continue older policies for a limited time)." ("Policy Notifications And Current Status, By State," The Associated Press, 12/26/13)

Obama Was Forced To Apologize After He Repeatedly Assured Americans That They Could Keep Their Plan Under ObamaCare

President Obama: "I'm Sorry That They Are Finding Themselves In This Situation Based On The Assurances They Got From Me." OBAMA: "I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me. We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this." (Chuck Todd, "Obama Personally Apologizes For Americans Losing Health Coverage," NBC News, 11/7/13)
