The Big Fail: “We Have To Wait And See”

- June 3, 2012

Obama’s Surrogates On Sunday Shows Baffled By Obama’s Economic “Plan”

FIRST CAME “THINGAMAJIG”

Obama Thinks Buying A “Thingamajig” Will Fix The Economy. OBAMA: “There are some folks here that can use $3,000 a year. Let’s get that done right now. If you’ve got $3,000 a year extra, that helps you pay down your credit cards, that helps you go out and buy some things that your family needs, which is good for business. Maybe somebody will be replacing some thingamajig for their furnace. They’ve been putting that off. But if they've got that extra money, they might just go out there and buy that thing. Right?” (President Barack Obama, Remarks, Golden Valley, MN, 6/1/12)

THEN CAME “WE HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE”

Former Obama Economic Adviser Steven Rattner Said That “We Have To Wait And See” On The Economy. FOX NEWS SUNDAY’S CHRIS WALLACE: “But how do you explain the fact we were creating a quarter of a million jobs a couple of months ago and now 69,000?” FORMER OBAMA ECONOMIC ADVISER STEVEN RATTNER:  “That’s something we are all going to see what happens. We have had similar slowdowns in the spring the last two years. We had this kind of a dip in the spring. I don’t want to get technical, here, but some economists wonder about the seasonal adjustment factors in economic data, but it may be something more substantial. We have to wait and see. One month's data or even two month's data, particularly when we are still creating jobs even at an unacceptably low rate.” (Fox’s “Fox News Sunday,” 6/3/12)

FOLLOWED BY CONDESCENDING DISMISSAL OF REAL JOB PROPOSALS

Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter Dismissed 20,000 Potential Jobs From The Keystone Pipeline As “A Fraction.” GEORGE WILL: “How about the Keystone Pipeline? You don't need congress to do that.” OBAMA DEPUTY CAMPAIGN MANAGER STEPHANIE CUTTER: “That’s a fraction of the jobs that could be created by these proposals.” WILL: “They’re pretty important to those that get those jobs.” CUTTER: “And we have, you know, extended the Keystone Pipeline at different points in the country. It's currently under review. But that's a fraction of the jobs that we're talking about here. We’re talking about a million jobs.” (ABC’s “This Week,” 6/3/12)

BUT ON THE DAY COUNTRY LEARNED THAT THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE INCREASED, THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN FOUND TIME TO RELEASE A VIDEO FEATURING VOGUE’S ANNA WINTOUR

Fox News’ Juan Williams: “Let's Have Someone Who Reeks Of Ornamental Excess Announce That The Peasants Can Have A Place At The Table.’ It’s Just Unbelievable. I Mean, So You Know, Just A Mistake.”  “FOX NEWS SUNDAY’S CHRIS WALLACE: “Here’s another blunder that you may not have seen. On the day, Friday, when all of the bad economic news came out, the Obama campaign decided that was the day to release a video of Anna Wintour. If you don’t know her, she is the editor of a fashion magazine, Vogue. Saying to people contribute to the Obama campaign and you can come to a big exclusive dinner in New York that Sarah Jessica Parker and I are hosting. Take a look at this.” VOGUE’S ANNA WINTOUR: “Sarah Jessica and I both have our own reasons for supporting President Obama, and we want to hear yours. So please join us, but just don't be late.” WALLACE: “Yes, don't be late. And this is on the day when we find out that the economy created only 69,000 jobs. First of all, do you subscribe to Chip's idea that the campaign is off to a shaky start, and if so, how big a deal.” FOX NEWS’ JUAN WILLIAMS: “By the way, that was hilarious. That looks like a parody. It looked like the Romney campaign planted Dr. Evil in the house of Obama and he said, ‘you know on the day the grim job numbers come out let's have someone who reeks of ornamental excess announce that the peasants can have a place at the table.’ It’s just unbelievable. I mean, so you know, just a mistake.” (Fox’s “Fox News Sunday,” 6/3/12)
